I have a Magnaflow exhaust and Mini Mania Header. I love(d) the sound and feel of it. Until I had the header installed. The car runs great, sounds great, and feels great but... when I let off the gas I get a sound which is best described (after I've had a few beers) as...bah-lubb-a-lub-lub. This sound comes on as I'm coasting in to a stop at a light for instance. I have jacked the car up and have felt some exhaust leakage along the exhaust so I tightened it up. But still the bah-lubb-a-lub-lub when I let off the gas. I think the main exhaust leak is coming from where the cat links up with the header but I'm not sure, it might be normal.

Any input?

Ken

The Mania header sounds weird to begin with, so I'm not sure anything is wrong, unless you really do have a leak somewhere. Get back under there and use some of that assembly paste and goop it all up, and torque it all down. Be sure to check that you're getting good fitment at the head, and at the flange between the Mania and Magnaflow.

Good luck,
Ryan

Thanks for the reply Ryan. Are you saying the Mania header has had noise issues?

I "think" the header itself is ok but I don't know. I think the problem might be in the flange or other linkage in the exhaust. Is there supposed to be no leakage of exhaust at all or is some normal? I suppose what I'm saying is...should I be able to feel any air (exhaust) coming out of the various points along the Magnaflow and/or header joints?

I "think" I know the answer is "No" but I have no clue.

Thanks.

What I meant to say was the Mania header has strange acoustics; it's just an auditory perception, really.

You're right, you do NOT want any excessive exhaust leakage, as it will negate the tuning of the exhaust system, and you'll lose drivability and horsepower.

Sounds like the Burbble that is common with the Magnaflow. Actually, thats the signature sound of the Magnaflow.

MMMMMMMMMM Magnaflow Burbble....music to my ears

Hope there are no leaks, and if so easily remedied.

Thanks guys. Yeah I love the burble too, but only if it's normal. If I'm leaking hp though a bad joint and that was causing the burble I wouldn't be happy. It definitely is more pronounced since the header went in.

Sounds kinda like what we used to call "backrap" in the old muscle car days. It was considered a good sound, was most noticable during idle.
