Door open warning light

2nd day have the Mini and this morning I noticed that the open door/hatch light decided to stay on.

So the sensors sometimes get sticky when it is cold out?

Other than that everything else is fine.

Problem solved

Got home, opened the rear hatch and stuck my finger into the release catch (or whatever it is called) and wiggled it around a bit.

The light now turns off.

2015 mini countryman door open warning light

  • 2015 Countryman "S" with 80k miles.
  • Weather conditions (per moisture content conversations): It's July 10, temperature is 75 degrees, low humidity, sunny skies, no rain for the last week. i.e. unlikely water or moisture got into the sensor connection.
  • The problem just started today. Stopped the car twice along the road, and checked/closed all the doors tight.
  • The warning indicated it was coming from the right side of the car.
  • Got home, and the only thing I did was to spray WD-40 (in and/or around) all the door hinges, and latch mechanisms (including engine hood, and rear hatch).
  • Then came inside to check this forum for possible solutions.
  • Just read the previous post about jiggling the door latch mechanisms, but as soon as I backed out of the garage to try it, and drove forward (to reach 2-3 mph when the light comes on) the problem was solved.
  • Washed car in celebration.
  • I know it will happen again, but all is well for now.
