boot door/hatchback problems
boot door/hatchback problems
I'm not sure if this problem has been posted before... a simple search didn't yield any quick answers, so here goes:
The hatchback/boot door/boot lid on 2004 MCS (17500 miles) intermittently fails to close completely--or at least my car thinks the door is open and leaves the dome light on with the warning lamp lit on the speedometer.
This seems to occur in warmer weather and when the car has been sitting outside in the sunshine. When the car is left overnight or in my garage where it is relatively cool, the warning light and dome light never come on.
I've also noticed a mild creaking noise from the rear of the car as I drive over speed bumps when the weather is warm, which I presume may be related.
Sooo... is this a sensor problem or is the door actually loose (it still shuts completely even when the warning light comes on) and is there an easy fix/adjustment or do I need to take to my dealer?
Thanks in advance,
vin

Hey that's like Dr.Suess,sorry.
I would have to slam the hatch shut, to get the dash light to go out, but my dome light never came on.
But try this, there are 2 rubber stops about 1/2 way up the opening. You can adjust them, turning them to the right puts less pressure on the hatch, turning to the left puts more pressure on the hatch.Turn them all the way to the right, screwing them in all the way, then see if you still have the problem.
Now with them screwed all the way in the hatch may rattle. So then turn them to the left a 1/4 turn till the rattle stops. If the rattle stops, but the light problem returns, well if this works, then you need to go to the dealer and get a new latch/stricker
Hope this helps:smile:
