Could be the catalytic converter cooling off, mine sometimes makes a kind of pinging popping sound as it cools.

I agree with the theory that this is one of those engine/exhaust cooling noises. I noticed that my MCS seemed to make a lot of noise after I shut it off when I first bought it, and now I'm used to it.

Just another weird MINI quirk, I guess.

Pop Goes The Weasel

All around the mulberry bush, --(I thought it was round and round the mb bush)
The monkey chased the weasel.
The monkey thought twas all in fun.
Pop goes the weasel!

Penny for a spool of thread. -- (boy, I forgot there were 3 more stanzas)
Penny for a needle.
That's the way the money goes.
Pop goes the weasel!

The painter needs a ladder and brush.
The artist needs an easel.
The dancer needs a fiddler's two.
Pop goes the weasel!

I've no time to wait and sigh.
I've no time to wheedle.
Kiss me quick. I'm off, good bye
Pop goes the weasel!

(p.s. a country station in York, PA, just got bought out and switched to a
pop format... to kick it off, they played "Pop Goes The Weasel" continuously
for over 24 hours......arrghhhh!!!)
