Delete won't be for tracking. For a daily driver? A lil getting used to might be all it needs.

One of the reasons this is done is for tracking, to get a truer feel of the road. Saving a fair amount of weight is certainly a plus too for racers. And given that our OEM power steering set-up is prone to failure, and I'm aware of several on the track, some during races, reliability is a huge factor; not to mention safety. This group of MINI drivers has most likely experimented with various options. I'm starting to get some feedback now...

Another reason why we should opt for this delete is this:

It fried Domiracer's car!

There are certainly reasons to either ditch the MINI's PAS or somehow make it somewhat better...

Can we confirm that Condor has had the donor rack for almost 2 weeks now?

If so, I guess we should know something really soon...

Actually, there was a lil delay. The donor rack was just sent a coupla days ago. I've been in touch w/ the generous donor of the rack, c0op3r on here & w/ Carlos of Condor. Updates will be posted once the kit will be made available.
Our appreciation should go to c0op3r for volunteering & sending a complete rack for kit development & to Carlos of Condor for his enthusiasm to share his Bimmer experience & expertise in tackling this delete block for the gen1 community.

Indeed. Deep gratitude to both c0op3r and Carlos of Condor. This clearly would not be possible without such contributions. minsanity, I appreciate your efforts too with any coordination provided and of course with these updates...

Here's to hoping the solution is a viable option for us.

Don't mention it, Tony. It's the least one can do to help the gen1 community get some option on this pesky lil problem. I simply share the passion of many who want to get these lil cars to last forever.
Stay tuned!

A bit of update: Carlos of Condor has c0op3r's steering rack now. Prototype should be in the works.

Fantastic.

Is there some type of bench test that Carlos can perform to give us an idea if this is likely to work well for us? If not, then I'll guess we'll need to wait until the rack gets re-installed, I assume back on c0op3r's MINI...

I could ask Carlos on that, Tony. Da_Ghost, even while having a new pump, created a looped hose delete. The 1st try, he was cursing as he never removed air nor most of the fluid. On the 2nd attempt, Carlos advised to leave the banjo bolts off 1st, turn end to end to get most of the fluid & air out, but leave residual amount for lube. That made the car drivable. A block is a shortened loop, there might be a chance that would even be better than the looped hose.
Here is Condor's add for Bimmers:

Thanks minisanity.

It's Da_Ghost's experience that provides some hope. To that point, what would be reassuring is if the BMW guys experienced the same as Da_Ghost, with their experimentation. If so, one can probably conclude that there is sufficient room for improvement. On the other hand, if their looped hose delete felt good already, we might not have the end result we desire...

To answer some of questions; I will not be putting the rack or delete on my car for testing, the rack was removed complete and working from an 06 MCSa.

I had parted out the car, and the rack was still here, so I donated it.

Being that it is complete unit, he can bench test it if he so chooses.

Currently my pump is working, and I have an 06 so it was supposed to be one of the better units, with the OEM fan shroud, even though my reservoir is leaking, but I have the replacement lines for now. I will be getting a kit from Carlos, that may get installed in the future.

I know there are at least two people lined up to install and test the delete kit.

During the installation processes and testing processes, can you guys post some pictures of what you did with the rack?

c0op3r, thanks for making the time to post, addressing a couple questions.

I didn't realize that folks are already secured to install and test. Great news. Thanks again.

Well, it has been almost 2 weeks and while no news is often good news, on internet forums, that seems to be less so...

Any feedback as of yet?

I think there is another thread about this.

He has a prototype done is my understanding and will be sending a few for testing and will be selling them VERY soon.

Do a quick search I am sure you will find the thread, if you have a problem finding it I will look for it again.

I put this up elsewhere before I saw this. I have a 4"x4" oil cooler lying around and wonder if putting that into the PS circulation circuit, probably the return line, would be a good idea, and go a long way to what I assume are heat related problems with the pump. Is it always pumping, or does it switch on when the steering wheel is turned? Any thoughts?

I am considering this as well. I might be concerned about galvanic reactions between different metals but I would assume that ps fluid minimizes galvanic reactions. My Mini has a mysterious electrical gremlin where the ps pump cooling fan doesn't get power so I simply removed it. A manual conversion might be somewhere in the future for me if things domino.
