Rain Sensors seem to be wrong

So i just got my 08 2 months ago, I have never had the rain sensor wipers but they seem to be off a bit ???
Whenever it is rainging and I turn them on they just wipe and wipe and wipe no matter how hard or not hard it is raining. I have set and reset the wiper settings.
So is this just me not knowing how they run or is there really a problem with them????
If anyone can just send me to somewhere that would tell me how to fix or let me know what i could do that would be great THANKS =D
MOTOR ON!

Are you using the button on the end of the stalk to turn them on or are you turning the stalk to the first "on" position?

Edit: Just noticed this is in a 1st gen forum. Is your 08 a convertible or hardtop? If it's a hardtop, you have a 2nd gen car and my question will be relevant. If it's a 1st gen car, then hopefully some one else will know as I don't.

Picture in his sig shows a hardtop so this is in the wrong generation forum. Maybe the mods can move it. How many miles and is it still under warranty?

I have an R53 so I am no help. Have you let it run for a couple minutes to see if it starts working right? If you receive no help here then obviously I would take it into the dealer then and have it looked at.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the auto windshield wipers. Have you adjusted the sensitivity? It is done through the ECM via the left hand stalk button push. The process should be explained in the owners manual. At least in my 09 that is how its accomplished.

That's not the auto wipers. Press the button at the end of the lever. Look in your Owner's Manual.

Just as rkw states and so did Minidrivr. Leave the lever in the off position but push the button at the end of the lever.

If it is too sensitive or not sensitive enough you can then go into the programming via the left lever and adjust the sensitivity to meet your needs. There are 3 different settings if memory serves me right.

The owners manual will explain all of these things for you. I would read it cover to cover and then try some of the more arcane settings and get used to them.

There are a lot of things you can change on your Mini. I still have to refer to mine now and again when needing to change or adjust something. The good news is once everything is done a lot of them you will never need to adjust again.

I'm so glad it worked out for you. Now you can Motor On and actually see where your going.

Your frustration level will now return to acceptable levels.

I could just sit back and not admit it, but actually, I just learned how to do my auto-wipers from this thread! LOL [In my defense, my car came with no manual]. I have downloaded one in PDF. Thanks Curbicooper, for asking the question!
