Probably time for a new one. Or there might be another leak in the Evap system. Most likely the cap, though.

Oh, I hope it's not that. mjlaupp, did you smell fuel in cabin prior to this repair?

Remember, there are two sending units on these cars (twin lobe tank).

ses and cgc lights

My friend put low grade gas in my 05 mini last week by mistake and my service engine soon and check gas cap light have came on. I changed the gas cap and the ses light stays on constantly and the check gas cap comes and goes. Auto zone machine tester gave me a code of P055 for a domestic type car. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much.

I got the same warning light and it turned out to be a pollution control line in the engine bay had come adrift. The gas tank gets slightly pressurized when the car is started, and the light tells you it can't get pressurized to the point it's seeking. The most usual cause of something like that is the gas cap is loose - didn't get put on tight, maybe got cross-threaded accidentally or something, so you're warned to check the cap. If the cap is tight, properly threaded, and the gasket is still good, then you need to search elsewhere for the cause of the problem. Poke around under the bonnet to see if all the various small-diameter hard lines are connected somewhere - the loose one on my car was up front, on the passenger side, and near the top of the engine (not buried way down below a lot of stuff - I could see it easily once I started looking for disconnected lines). It's about 20 degrees out in the garage right now, so I'm not going out there to try and get a more detailed description. Good luck.

I had this problem a few weeks ago - SES and Check Gas Cap lights. Turned out to be a bad Fuel Tank Breather Valve. It is a common Delphi part found in many GM cars. Found it on Parts Geek for $22

here is how I got to it:

2006 > Saab > 93 > Air Intake > Purge Valve

...or you could go original MINI and pay $87

Ordered one of these parts, going to try it before I take it to the dealer as I'm having the same issue. Where is the breather valve located on the car?

I tried a new gas cap ... no luck. Replaced the breather valve ... no luck. A couple of times I have smelled gas strongly in the cabin. I guess it's time to go to the dealer ...
