Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
$270 installed here in Canada at the Mini Dealershop. Just picked one up for $130 taxes in and installed it myself. Took about 20 minutes to get that cowl back on snug.
Easy to do and there's $140 I'm gonna allocate elsewhere. Maybe some new hockey gear.
One piece of info I couldn't find on posts... The battery that came with my Mini OEM was about 8 inches in length. BUT FYI the area where the battery sits can accommodate a longer battery. I did not measure it but I would say that it could accommodate a 10-11 inch long battery. 47N H5 is the recommendation but I believe an H6 could fit. Interesting because H5s were hard to come by in my area.

After replacing battery my cowl pieces have become so dry-rot from sun exposure, they are cracking and ugly as hell.
I have ordered new ones from ECS and also the clip that fits on bottom of windshield that the cowl pieces also clip into from.
I needed this part too because mine is loose and moves when trying to clip cowl piece down into it.

How does this attach to bottom of window??? friction? epoxy ?

Is this the gooey part (at least on mine, sun baked?) That seals the cowl/apron to the windshield? I'd like to replace mine too.
I went with friction and pushed the cowl firmly into the windshield while tightening.
I hope I'm not wrong. It didn't seem like it sealed well enough and I noticed when I put the cowl back that it sat a millimetre lower as indicated by the dust line.

I wonder a small bead of epoxy would be suggested ??
an excerpt: "The electrical system in late-model Minis and BMWs is quite sophisticated, in that it tailors charging as closely as possible to both the type and age of the battery. The Engine Management computer also controls the alternator output. When replacing a battery, this computer needs to be informed if you’ve replaced the battery or updated the vehicle from a conventional Lead Acid battery to an Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) type; it charges the AGM differently than a traditional battery."
Seems legit to me, but very expensive.
Does anyone know if the need to do this is lessened my replacing with an identical battery?
Its a chance, most of the time it will need re-flashed by MINI if you have the IBS system in your MINI by looking for the extra connections at the terminal.
Hello all, I will be needing to change my battery soon so I was doing some research on the whole Battery Reset process and found found some info explaining the reasons for having to run the Battery Registration (Link Below) http://atlanticmotorcar.com/tech-tip-bmw-and-mini-battery-registration-replacement-2/ an excerpt: "The electrical system in late-model Minis and BMWs is quite sophisticated, in that it tailors charging as closely as possible to both the type and age of the battery. You MUST HAVE IT RESET. As long as you have a Mini with that system. I do on my Mayfair (2010) . It is known by the extra positive connection on the battery terminal. Get it reset. The need is NOT LESSENED by replacing with an identical battery.
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have a few questions regarding battery replacement.
1. How do you tell if you have a regular Lead battery or AGM battery?
My 2011 MINI Cooper Clubman S has a VARTA 61 21 7 567 386, with the following specs 55Ah, 480A, 90RC, and 480CCA.
2. Has anyone used BMWLogger to register their battery?
This is a free tool that I used to register my 328i E91 battery two years ago. Wondering if it will work for the MINI. Seems to be able to pull the DME codes...
3. Clarification, if the positive terminal has two wires, it means you have IBS system?
