sorry to be a pain, but can someone please explain to me fully what this CD 31 and CVT thing is? i'm confused, and i want to know cos i'm having some of those problems....see if i can get this upgrade thing. thank u.

 

Karen: Welcome to MCO!!

BMW/MINI label all their CD's by number. A lot of our cars were built and had the most current edition software loaded on our cars (CD #30). With that software, a lot of Cooper S and Coopers had problems either starting (Cooper S) or with idle (Cooper). CD #31 is the newest CD to be released. It includes a software fix for the cold start problem on the S (multiple attempts to start in the morning). It also is suppose to address the idle problem on the 5-Speed Cooper, but from what I gather NOT the same problem on the CVT Cooper (Continuously Variable Transmission - a type of automatic transmission).

Since you have a Cooper S, you can get that starting problem fixed with the software update. Contact your dealership and tell them you want to get CD #31 loaded onto your MINI. :smile:

 

My dealer has informed me that there is a separate version of CD #31.x for Cooper CVT models only.

There is one edition of CD #31 for Cooper 'S' and Cooper 5 speed models and a separate edition of the fix for CVT Coopers.

I was able to confirm this with 2 separate MINI dealers.

Also if your MINI was built right up to the second to third week of August 2002, it is possible that you don't have CD #31 programmed into your DME from factory. Late August 2002 and September 2002 -> on builds should already have the latest version of the software from factory.

If you have a Cooper CVT and are currently experiencing issues with engine idle with or without the A/C on, then you should get your dealer to download Cd#31 into your DME. Your dealer should be well aware of the separate CD version for CVT models.
