Yes you too can now have a 6 speed in the cooper just like it's big brother "S"

That link appears to be for the classic Mini, not the New MINI.

Perhaps I am seriously confused, but why would someone choose to spend $3500 + labor ($4000-$4500 total) to add a 6-speed to a cooper?

If you're thinking the Cooper needs a 6-speed, why not take $3000 and get a Cooper S with the factory 6-speed and the warrenty, plus the extra 48 hp from the supercharger, plus the stock sport seats, plus the sport plus suspension?

Or am I missing something?

Nope, its for the MINI Cooper... but yep, it costs 3500... of course, you can also get a new 'straight cut close ration gear kit' for your MINI Cooper, at, errr, $3,500...

well I guess you have a point there. I have thought long and hard about witch mini to get. the MC or the MCS. after many sleepless nights It comes down to the MC for one reason. I love the red seat and side panels. if they would offer that in the S i'm sold. any thoughts???

I believe that if you had to think about a choice between the MC and the MCS than you should drive an MC. For me the added benefits of supercharger, sport seats, 17" wheels and a 6-speed manual made this a no-brainer for me. $3,500 into a MCS would make one hella fast ride.

Here's my 2 cents...

I prefer the 5 speed layout, with Reverse is at the bottom right, down from 5th. It just seems more natural to me.

As to the 5 vs. 6 differences.. both the MC and the MCS bog a little in 1st, but the gear ratios for all of the other gears are fine. Other than the MCS having an extra gear, and the Getrag being of somewhat better quality, there is not much other distinction.

Though your car does look good. The "S" is alot more that just an option. The "S" has much more horse power I am sure you are aware of plus a sound like no other factory built European car. The handling and preformance is outstanding and for a little more than 3K I believe the "S" is just an option that I could not pass up. Just my thought and enjoy you car as I am enjoying mine.

But if you haven't done it already, you should have the CD 31 upgrade done to your computer. This has definite improvements for the 1st gear bog problem (among other things). Beyond that, I guess it is just the gearing.

I would agree with jsun, re reprog does help 1st gear bog. I have also gone to the R84 16" wheels and Yokohama AVS ES100 tires, and installed the MINI-Madness air intake. The result: no first gear bog at all, it drives like you'd think it should. The wheels and tires helped *a lot*.

I agree that 16" wheels seem to be the optimal size...

I chose to get a cooper and not an S because I didn't like the S hood, I wanted a cloth interior, and I plan to get way more than 48 extra hp by the time I'm done with my Cooper. I paid only $300 extra to get the sport suspension and $800 for the sunroof. Now, as far as I'm concerned, the first $3000 I spend in mods don't count!

oh, and I forgot to add that BMW has attatched the pulley on the supercharger so that you can't easily switch it for a smaller one and make more boost.

JSUN:
My MCS won't be delivered until Spring. Will upgrades like the CD31 be programmed already? Do I order upgrades and programming? Where can I view these?

I agree completely!!!

Yes, these fixes will be already programmed. I was told that the CD-31 that the Service Depts are using now for fixes is the same one that they are loading on new cars now as they are built.

JohnW - Dittos on the Rogue Exhaust. I actually test drove an S yesterday just to compare to my IB/MC (with Rogue Exhaust), and I still like my MC, especially when I get that engine up over 4500 RPM's. Still need to get the CD31 upgrade...

dandp,

Yeah, I prefer my MC (with a few minor mods) too! Is that your IB with the RE exhaust out there in the Member Minis gallery? PS and IB are definitely the two best MINI colors.
I was thinking of adding 'RE' for Rogue engineering to my car abbreviation! -- how does PS/MC/RE sound?

I have been calling my service dept weekly about the CD31 fix... when I called today, they said in just came in the other day! Geeez, you think they would have thought to call me! Anyway, I made an appt to get it loaded on next week. Can't wait to get the 1st gear bog & the "almost stalling out" thing fixed!

That's mine! In fact, I was up at Rogue Saturday getting my old exhaust (yes-it did fit in the car) I like the RE on the end- Let me know how the "fix" is on the software, will probably do it when I get the first service.

The original pipe, from resonator to muffler, fit in the car ??

I had the guys who installed my RE exhaust cut the old setup in half so I could fit it in my MINI to take home..

that is good advice for anyone that gets a new exhaust -- SAVE the original one in case you ever want to get it put back on!

The entire 93 inches...had moving pads around it and put the big part in the back and where the front part bends, that went under the passenger side leg area. The guys at Rogue advised me to keep for the same reasons, in case I sell, etc.
