whats wrong with my transmission ?!?!?!?!

Hey

so its been a week now that i noticed that the car was harder to shift. It started slowly (mostly when the car was cold) and normally went away after. But now it is constantly hard to shift and just today, i started hearing a squeaky noise at every shift. u can hear the sound from inside and outside of the car !!!!
also, i have the strange feeling that the 2nd gear doesnt engage all the way

other info :
2005 MCS Manual
drives fine except from hard shifting
104000 km
havent checked the transmission fluid level yet cuz its dark outside but will do it as soon as possible

plz dont tell me i need a new transmission !!!

Maybe it is time for a new clutch? They are wear items (and not cheap, but better than a transmission.)

Here's a link about transmission linkage problems that may be of interest. Good luck.

How do i know if it's a linkage problem. All gears engage (except maybe the 2nd) and the car works great with no transmission noise
the only noise is when im actually shifting (sound like metal to metal grinding)

Would a clutch failure be so sudden ?
the actual clutch pedal feels perfectly fine

Start at the cheap end and check the linkage. It certainly needs to be working well for the car to shift, then move up the money ladder if it checks out OK. It is a very dirty part of the car and here in my area, salt use would make its life shorter.

If you are getting gear grinding noise going into only 2nd i'd say your transmission is starting to fail. Car can go a long time with failing synchros if that's whats wrong.

Easy quick check to see if the clutch could be the cause is just stop, see if the shifter moves freely between gears. Goto 1st, then neutral. Let the clutch out then push it back in and try reverse.

Did it go in easy or bark "grind" on the way in? If it went in easy the clutch isn't causing your issue.

Thx
I did this and all was ok, except from the part of it being a bit hard to shift

I just remembered that i had purchased a extended warranty from another compagny.
I says on the contract that these parts are insured
-all internal lubricated parts
-gear box

does that mean I am insured for everything or is there a part that could be damaged and that I would not be insured ?

I don't know if it works the same way in Canada, but based only on what you wrote, if you have a bad transmisson it should be covered.

However, based on what you've described, I think your problem is in your shift cables. Salt and dirt get in them and cause them to rust and bind. Replacing them is nothing compared to rebuilding a tranny and/or replacing the clutch, so go there first. or have someone knowledgable drive it and give you a proper diagnosis.

I always wonder why people think they can give a one or two line description of a problem and expect an accurate diagnosis from an online forum - cars are complicated machines, and a lot of times the description is far from accurate or complete. Only the guy behind the wheel really knows what's going on with it....

solved the problem this weekend. Linkage was very dirty and covered in sand.
Spray WD-40 as a short term fix and I will be cleaning and regreasing all the linkage this weekend
