Play in shifter

My shifter has a good inch of side-to-side play. Anyone know of a way to fix this?

Thanks,

Ted

I should also mention, the shifter rattles at high RPM's in 3rd gear.

With bare little info, it's hard to say. Worn bushings?

Basically, in neutral or any gear, I can wiggle the shifter side-to-side about an inch. Any idea how I can fix this?

There are likely several plastic / nylon bushings throughout the assembly that have worn over time and require replacing.

Pretty common on all makes/models as the miles climb.

It should be able to move back and forth across the shift gate when it's in neutral, otherwise how would you select the other gears.....so I assume what you're saying is that once the lever is in gear, it still wobbles around?

If that's so, I think you need to buy a new shift cassette, which is the cables and the parts they hook to. With no more info on your car, that's the best we can do...

Folks, if you want to know how to fix something, the clearer, more accurate and detailed info you can give on your car and the situation your having will get you the best and most detailed answers...

Just to say "my car makes a noise, how do I fix it?" isn't adequate....
