Oil change DIY...can't get bolt off

Followed the guide I found on here on how to do the oil change, everything was pretty clear, except I went back to try and get the bolt off with the 13mm wrench and nothing--it won't move. I don't want to try it too much or else it'll strip. I already bought the mobil1 synth oil, so what do you guys recommend I do? should I just take it into the german auto repair shop and give them the oil i bought and have them do it, or should I take it into an evans tire shop and have the guy who we know do it there.

I am confused as to why this screw is so tight I wanted to do this on my own. any suggestions on how to get this thing off???

I had the same problem the first time I changed oil on my Mini.
A lot of techs use air wrenches when doing repairs and don't pay attention to the proper torque specs.
At this point you will probally need a new drain plug.
Make sure to get a magnetic one.
You will also need the copper washer for the drain plug.
I got a set of Irwin Bolt Sockets.
It was the only way to get the plug out.

Wrench may be just too small. I used a 1/2 drive socket and it was still tight. Just make sure you have a good fitting 6 point socket and it will go with a long enough arm.

First, make sure you can loosen the oil filter canister!
For low tech/low arm stress, use a low slung jack, put wrench on bolt, put jack under end of wrench and give it a pump or two - voila! Note: Make sure you're turning it the correct way - wrench should be on passenger/left side when looking from front of car.

Since the drain plugs are disposable, When I changed my oil I used an Easy-out. It ruins the head but no chance of problems with grip.

I've read that putting a small amount of anti-seize on the plug can help the next time. Personally, I'm paranoid it will work its way into the oil. So I don't do it.

many threads on this ... a good lesson in additional research b4 you begin even something this easy.

Search in the GEN1 area . . .

for example https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rain-plug.html

I'm cornvinced the culprit is the built-on plastic washer of the OEM plug. Never saw a bung like that b4 and never had problems with stuck bung b4. Buy a Fumoto and say good bye to the problem and end up with a neater and faster job to boot!

(Gen1 doesn't use a copper washer, but we know this is a GEN1 cuz we're trying to use the 13mm recommended wrench. A mistake on its own . . .)

I always get 'em out first time now. A good 1/2 inch socket and a breaker bar. And anyone who asks me for help leaves with a Fumoto.

Just get a Fumoto and never worry about it again.

with a cheap 13mm you'll end up with a rounded off bung . . .

with a 1/2 you'll get it off

I've had to get on my back and use my legs to press a 18" breaker bar

See what a little *** will do for ya? And oil changes on the MINI are easy but not as easy as my Jeep Wrangler with 8" of lift.

Had this problem when I changed oil on my R50...I just simply sprayed some WD-40 on the bolt.

I had to use a boltout on mine. Destroys the head of the bolt, but removed it.

I then went to O'Reillys and their replacement had a 17mm head on it. now it works fine.

Then I changed to the Fumoto valve with the 90 bend to clear my PS fan shroud. Now I'm even more happy.

Guess it's a common enough problem - mine wouldnt come off with regular hand tools either.
