Anybody have problem with the windows going down and sunroof going back by itself? I park it at night with the windows up and roof closed. Next morning go outside and the roof is back and windows down. I took the sunroof fuse out but the windows would still go down.
Took it to Momentum Mini and they replaced the two door operators for friggin $1364 last week. Now tonight its doing it again. Only this time I hear the door locks clicking every 5 seconds or so and the inside lights are on.
yeah... simple solution. When you go in the house take the key out of your pocket. It is really easy for the key to activate the windows if you bend over, sit down, change the garbage, work on the computer... etc.
This happened to me once when I parked my car near Central Park in NYC and came back only to find that the car was in the middle of the block instead of at the corner and the sunroof and windows were slightly opened. I realized the car was moved because it was on a diplomatic block (although I'm still not quite sure how they got in) and thought for months that they had also wanted to ventilate the car. I eventually found out that holding the unlock button down after the car has been unlocked will open both windows and sunroof because the key was programmed that way. Is that what is happening to you? You can ask the dealer to remove that option on the key.
+1 I had the same problem and it was my keyfob that was programmed the same way. The dealer removed that feature and my car hasn't done it since. I have a 2006 Justa.
Simple problem...it has been answered many times here....
Is actually a free fix...wear looser pants!!
Then to have it never happen again, have the dealer reprogram the buttons..about a 1 hr programming charge...so $175 or so!!
I guess a nearly bad battery or bad bcm could cause an issue...but just having come from a stealership, you would think they would have done the most basic trouble shooting before throwing $1000 worth of parts and labour at the car...it actually sounds like they just did "anything" to make you feel like they were trying to fix it...
Did they find your old parts were actually defective?! It sounds kinda odd...the parts they swapped out are not part of the system that commands the windows and sunroof to open...so were you having a second issue?
It ain't from hitting the key. The key is sitting on my dresser. I look outside and the windows are up and sunroof closed. Key is still on dresser undisturbed. Next morning have key in hand without touching remote button. Go outside and windows are down and sunroof back. It ain't the key. Have used key enough to know how it works and use it. Yes I know you can hold remote down and both sunroof and windows open. BTW this is a 2003.
yeah, got it fixed when I took it to the dealer. Only cost me 1350. Knew I would get raped at the dealer. Has to be a major problem before I take it there.
My wife's MINI (an '03) is having the exact same problem. Did anyone find out what's causing it? We just replaced the battery, but that didn't do anything.
My wife's MINI -- also an '03 -- started doing the same thing. She was having issues with the windows and locks. However, she noticed the car would only misbehave when she walking towards it and/or driving. We suddenly wondered if it was something to do with the battery inside the actual car key. We took the battery out, and sure enough, she's been problem-free for weeks. We haven't tried replacing the car key battery just yet, so I can't say if the problem was the battery being low, or the key itself, but I figured I'd mention it before people go spending lots of money on repairs they might not need.
Hey Mini Owners:
Here is a possible fix to the mystery window issue. I read all the blogs and talked to a high end tuners. mechs, along with various YouTube videos. What I assumed was voltage. My car has been sitting for several weeks. In winter, the chassis battery was not up to a proper charge. Took the battery out and hooked it up. The charge meter indicated down over 75% it would start the car, but the window were really slow. 8 hours on the charger and "shazam" problem solved. at least for now. Nice not to have to pay $560 for a new BCU plus programming plus labor.......I did find out water is a bad thing, if it gets wet The factory placement is far from ideal. Half the connections are on the bottom so wet carpets could take it out of operation. One shop I spoke with was more than happy to fix it, I'll bet that would have cost over a grand. Not this time, it back ripping up the roads here in the northwest. DIY !!!

2003 Supercharged Mini S
Thats some serious pro video gears there.
I thought most of the BCU water problems are water intrusion from above, often due to the rainroof drainage issue. The main harness to the BCU even was designed with a drip loop for water to drip off in hope of not raining onto the BCU from top.
PNWR..... Good call. We will check the possibility of leakage from above. Headed to NAPA now to have the battery assessed. If there is a bad cell, need to address that now.
Update to previous post from IKAR
We had the battery checked. It was an Optima incorrect for the application by the pervious owner. Dated 1/16, not really that old but developed issues with holding a decent charge. On the bench after an overnight charge we found the windows doing the same issue middle of the next day. So took it to the auto parts store and had the crew put it on the battery analyzer. Fail! Hardly enough amps to start the car. Purchased the correct battery for the car by the book and installed. Now experienced much better performance and issues with the windows, door locks and a few other items have corrected themselves.
