Ahhh... WTF?
Ok, this is disturbing. My MINI has gone from consistantly getting 26-28 mpg to getting a whopping 21.75mpg now.... This has been going on since I got it back from the body shop after my accident but I have just been hoping that I had a bad tank of gas or something. This is tank #3 and I broke out the calculator method to figure out what was going down. The obc read 22.8... Close enough. The only things that have changed on this car have been, a minor accident (but a pretty good bump) and I put a Pilo intake on. The car feels fine, drives fine, good power, no weird sounds, doesnt feel like anything is dragging or binding.... I will say this. the car has 8200 miles on it and hasnt gotten an oil change yet (shame on me). Anyone got any ideas?? Im about to get my pulley done and Im in fear of voiding my warrenty and then having some serious problem pop up...
Not changing the oil before the 10K mile service will not cause your mileage to drop. trust me.
One other place to check is the air pressure of your tires when they are COLD. Underinflated tires can have an impact on your daily fuel consumption. Check the sticker on the driver's side door jamb for proper cold air tire pressures depending on the tire and rim size you are using.
Dirty fuel injectors could also cause mileage problems. Go to a Chevron or Mobil station and buy a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. Pour the entire contents of the bottle on a full tank of gas. One application should be enough. maybe is a good idea to switch to a high quality brand.
Also check your driving habits...jack rabbit starts from stoplights? Sudden breaking? Lots of high revs? Driving with the windows open and sunroof at all times? (Wind drag increases when driving with the windows down).
Hope this helps.

Well I always drive with the windows and sunroof open, and during this period they have been closed due to cold weather... I will check the tire pressure before I hit the road to the pulley party tonight. How fast does a stock S go thru sparkplugs?
usually ecu's take about 400miles to fully reset itself to your driving
habits and environment. see if it helps to drive on the freeway for
a few hours. you should see 31-32mph on the freeway going about 65-70mph
my mpg on my msc is usually between 28.5-30.00. and i drive it pretty
hard at times and usually not slow either while commuting.
