burn smell at high RPM

Hi I have a 06 MCS with 34k miles. My car smells like something is burning while im reaching into high RPM (like flooring it). It seems like the smell is coming from supercharger but I am not too shure. Im not too shure if all the cooper s do that or is it just my car. I hope you guys can give me some answer! Thanks!

All I can think of is a spinning belt. It is a random thought based on rpm and smell.

I believe it is just carbon build up burning off. I also have the same thing happen to me.

If it's a burning rubber or plastic smell there is a serious problem somewhere. If it just smells like a lot of carbon, it's a fairly common occurrence.

Supposedly it's because the engines run so rich that a little unburnt gas gets into the cat. But don't quote me on that.

Either way, it's common. Mine smells like I'm behind a city bus when I floor it on the highway entrance ramps. I just tell people that it's the scent of speed.

Take a close look at the belt....it might be slipping at high RPM's, making the smell due to heat.....Is it making any squealing sounds? It still could be slipping with out making lots of noise....this would be the first place I would look. Is it shiny or polished looking? If you have a pulley...and it is more than a year old, or 3-4 years form the OEM, change it.
I would also look for oil leaks or residual oil from prior work...some oil that drips onto a hot surface might make a smell.....like if someone made a mess during an oil change, and dripped some oil on the back of the motor....at high rpms, the exhaust heats up...and might make some smells.....the radiant heat would start baking the oil....

hmm.. it just smells when I floor it. Not 100% shure what kind of smell is. It just smells like something is burning. By the way my car is 100% stock so no aftermarket pulley or anything. And I dont think the oil is leaking too.

Where is the smell coming from though? Is it from under the hood or from the exhaust in the back? There is a smell from the exhaust for my car, but I am told it's just the carbon smell. If it's from under the hood, it's probably the belt.

Another possibility that has not been mentioned is that the clutch might be slipping. A slipping clutch almost always makes a nasty smell. Does the car feel like it is slow to accelerate under full throttle? Is the tachometer responding normally under hard acceleration?

It smells while im driving so it is probaby comeing from the engine and i replaced the clutch and flywheele couple thousand miles ago. I was wondering when you start your engine, does the engine shakes alot? I remember it didnt shake THAT much but it shakes to the point that it makes noises. hmm maybe lack of oil?

When you changed the clutch, switching to a non dual mass flywheel will cause more vibration....some of you engine mounts may be worn too...the oem oil filled one on top is famous for leaking and allowing too much engine movement. As for the smell...if you drive almost any car hard, things get hot...this heat will bake stuff that has been sprayed onto their surfaces...oil mostly, and make smells....remember if you are accelering hard, the clutch is working hard, as are the brakes...but the brakes and clutch both make a very distinctive smell when very hot...the infamous buring brake smell!!

PS---with some mini's, when they stop leaking oil, they are out!! Just kidding...but you should be checking you oil regularly....to say maybe it is out of oil...sounds like you should enlist the help of a shop...after you check you oil...I hear some full service gas stations might still do it!!
