Auxiliary / Cigarette Lighter Broken

Hi,

I just bought a 07' R56. I noticed that my cigarette lighter isn't working. I checked the fuse (F42?), and it was fine. I also checked the auxiliary in the boot, and it isn't working either. Is there anything else I should be looking for to try and solve this issue? Thank you.

See if they're disconnected behind the console. Or try plugging in a different accessory and see if it powers up.

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that I've already tried to disconnect, and reconnect the lighter from its wire harness on the console. I also tried several different accessories (ipod / gps )on the console, and boot, but have had the same result.

do you have access to a volt meter? You can use it to check for any blown fuses.

Checked the fuses with a volt meter, and everything was fine. I took it into the dealer, and had the problem fixed in 1 minute. It turns out that the luminous orange ring was broken.

I know you have probably already checked this and it's inconsistent with no blowing fuses, but thought I would share my experience with the Cig lighter in my '07MCS. It kept eating fuses...can't remember the fuse number. I finally looked down into the socket and what I saw was a dime...yes a $0.10 piece. It kept grounding the power at the bottom to the outside of the socket. It was actually difficult to fish out but after I did all was well. Just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Checking for spare change that may have accidentally fallen into the lighter was actually one of the very first things I tried to solve the issue. I eventually took it to the dealer, and the issue was fixed by replacing the luminous ring. It's #2 in this diagram: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...37&hg=61&fg=35

The previous owner of the car may have accidentally pulled the entire cigarette lighter unit out of the console, thus damaging the orange ring.
