multiple warning lights - ABS, DTS, Brake, TPM, CEL

I only have about 550 miles on a new (2010) Cooper S hardtop.

On a morning start-up (as we were about to leave on vacation) five warning lights came on (ABS, DTS, Brake, TPM, CEL). I gave it a test drive around the block to see if anything sounded or felt wonky. The only symptom besides the lights is that the speedometer doesn't function.

The manual says "driving stability control systems... failed"

It's headed to the shop tomorrow but I'd be curious to know if anyone else has had this or a similar problem.

I just had the same thing happen to me on my 2008 Cooper S with 49,700 miles on it. It is headed to the shop in the morning. It's still under warranty and since the speedo is dead, the odometer is as well, so it's not getting any closer to the end of the warranty ...

What ended up being the problem?

same thing on my 05 MCS right now (ABS, tire pressure monitor, brake, check engine, DSC lights on; speedo and odometer not working).

Dealer thinks DSC unit faulty and proposes $2800 replacement! I've had a mis-diagnosis before and eagerly await feed back on this.

Junction Block

Just got a call from the dealer and they suspect the junction block (where all the fuses are connected). The SA said there is an open circuit and they are ordering a new one. He also said that this was all they could tell, so there may be more after it is replaced.

I'll keep you posted.

My problem turned out to be a bad DSC unit. The problem took the mechanics almost two weeks to repair. It seems they are not a "plug and play" module but have to be synched somehow to the other systems. I think the service department had to go through a few different versions of software to make it all work correctly.

Back on the road and humming along smoothly.

Hi O.C.,

It was a while back but I'm pretty sure neither the odometer nor the speedometer were working. I think they both run off the same sensor.

Here's hoping your DSC isn't working due to a faulty connection rather than a bad unit.

any updates?

Okccooper,
Any updates? Sounds like we have the exact same symptoms.

Update: dsc unit/abs module was replaced at dealer and problem solved. Some of the BMW forums suggested a faulty abs module as well.

I have similar problem. My ABS light came ON and I don't know how to turn it off. Bad sensor? I don't want to take it to the dealer because it will cost me arm/leg! I just had my car back from the shop due to Vacumm pump failure.

Any advice ?

BongKeo,
If it is ONLY your ABS light on, our problems are different. Maybe c heck your brake/clutch fluid reservoir, check for brake fluid leaks, read OBD II code. Search "trifecta" for a more common cause of 3 dash indicator lights. Good luck

I have Brake light, ABS, and DSC are all on. The owner's manual said if these three indicators are on you must contact your mini dealer. I don't want to go to them, it will cost me $$.. advice?

Sounds like the "trifecta" which usually is a bad wheel speed sensor.

We have been having the full warning light with no speedometer issue with my wife's 2009 Cooper S Clubman. The first time they looked at it and said nothing was wrong. We were back in a week later. This time they said it was a loose ground on the fuse box. When we went to pick it up and the lights all came on before I got to the first light. We turned back and picked up our loaner again.

They called a couple days later and said that the DSC module was bad. The replaced and resynced it, and arranged to bring the car back to the house on Friday. My wife then got a call saying that their driver had to turn back because the lights had come on again. We are now waiting on further news. They said they contacted corporate for assistance.

Gees this sounds expensive. I wish I could just get rid of this DTC crap all together. I never use mine even in the winter.

Still under warranty here, so no expense. They even gave us a loaner, and will bring our car back to us when it's done. Just had a call from the service adviser to let me know that they are still working on it.

I never use my DSC either. It takes a whole lot more maneuvering than I normally do to get that light to flicker. I have used the DTC mode when I was on a gravel road with a really loose service.
