I hope someone can help me. I have a 2004 Mini Cooper. Went to open the doors one day with the key fob and the passenger side did not open. I got in the car and went to unlock it from the middle console, and that did not open it (but did open the driver's side). When I do get out of my car to go lock it, the passenger side does, in fact, lock. So, unlocking bad, locking good.

What is wrong? Is it the accuator or a door regulator or something? I'm at 53,000 miles and out of warranty.

Yes the actuator is the problem. I have the exact same thing, 04 that will lock but not unlock with the remote and central lock. I took mine apart to see if a cable had slipped off but it is the actuator. I have learned to live with it because my worry is to make sure the car is locked. I can unlock with the interior handle which is not such a big deal.
There are instructions on this site of how to replace the actuator if you want.

 

You can also see if there is corrosion on the contacts for the wires. Battery terminal cleaner works if it is fuzzy.
