MCS Centre Consol Very Hot And Trunk Problems

Hi my MCS is now 8 weeks out of it's 3 year warranty and I just discovered that the centre consol, just to the side in the foot well gets very hot on one side when the fan is being used. I noticed it by accident and was wondering if it's always been this way or is there a fault ? The plastic surround is almost, but not quite too hot to touch in one spot.

It's already booked in to the dealers because the boot grip rubber handle above the number plate won't open the trunk. I have to use the key fob to unlock it. Have I now got another fault.

Thanks

I believe the warranty is 4 years or 50k miles. So as long as your under that you should be fine.

Did you know that the boot grip handle will only release if both the driver's and passenger's doors are unlocked? It took me a while to figure that out.

The OP might not be in the U.S. where we have the 4/50 warranty. His spelling of "centre" makes me think he's in Europe somewhere perhaps. They might have different warranty coverage?

Anyway the center console by your foot (By the gas pedal?) does get hot, really hot. That is normal, well normal for the R56. I think it has something to do with the exhaust going right through there. My last car was the same way and it was made by Nissan but, it was hot in a different spot right underneatht the passengers feet. As far as your boot handle stealership fix for 4/50k warranty issue and if no warranty either use your key fob or buy a new one.

Heat to the right of the gas pedal is from the heating system. It's been discussed before. Do a searchy

Yep, the heating up of the center console next to the gas pedal is a known problem. There is a fix for it (some additional shielding), so should be covered by warranty.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I live 20 miles outside of London and on this side of the pond it's only a 3 year warranty (Why it should be any different is anybody's guess) My Mini is RH drive so it is the passenger side on mine, but it does seem to be a common problem by the sound of it. With regards to the boot/trunk it did start to work again for a day but alas, now when I squeeze it there is nothing again. The guy at BMW said they may have to replace the entire chrome part above the number plate. I'm hoping that it's only going to be the handle. Many thanks for your thoughts.
