Thanks,

Engine compartment fusebox
Note: The high current fuses FL1-FL5 are underneath (on the bottom) of the Engine Compartment Fuse panel.
High current fuses FL6-FL12 are on the right.
Fuses F1-F10 are on the left but are indicated in Mini wiring diagrams as F01-F010

fuse box driver's side kick panel. it's the 2nd to last fuse in the last row (all the way to the right). 5 amp fuse. this blows when your steering fan locks up.

Thanks for the info....I'll check the fuse shortly.
But i think I have a bigger issue. Starting last week I noticed that if I drive my R50 for more than 1 hour, shut the car off then start it up after 5 minutes of rest the steering is very difficult to turn. I checked the power steering fluid level - fluid level ~ 1/8" away from the upper indicator - so that's fine.
I changed out the engine oil this weekend and I can spin the power steering fan freely, no binding or obstructions. So next is the fuse....one observation was ppprior to changing the oil I inspected the power steering area underneath the car and it it was wet with whatI would say was and oil substance, I an only guess it was PS fluid an yet my PS fluid resivoir was full. Could I have a leak in my rack-n-pinion???? Did I spell that correctly.

If Ithe car sits for ~30 minutes everything is fine, no issues with steering....any idea's.

I have a similar problem with my 2002 R50. Today the temp was like 25 degrees sunny and after driving for like 30 mins. The power steering was hard to turn, but it did not make any noise. I let the car cool down for like 30 mins to an hour and start it up. The steering went back to normal smooth till I turned the engine off. I just had the pump and fuel lines replaced less than 1000kms ago. I checked the fuel level and it okay.

I try to find the fuse "FL4 100A" from under the hood and I didnt see any??

What could the problem be?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

I know it under the Engine compartment fusebox, but I said under the hood. I couldnt find the FL4 anywhere on the fusebox. Could it be a different year made for this model? My car built date is 07/2002.

Where is the fuse for the power steering pump fan for a 2005 R50.
1st check F39 5 amp fuse in the drivers side foot well fuse panel. In the engine compartment under the ECM is the FL4 100 amp fuse. You have to take the ECU and battery box out of the way to get to it. Hope this helps.

I took out the battery and to check the fuse. The fuses looks okay. After I put the battery back in and connect the cables on the battery. I heard a weird whining noise then it stopped. Would that be the pump?

How can you be a 100% sure is the pump?

It weird I just put in a new pump not too long ago and it would fail already again?

Is there any other way to check the pump working?

Good advice above. After you check the fuses like shown above, Check the connections on top of the pump, sometimes people when installing a new pump break the clip on the PS harness side when removal the top cable and then the male side works its way out.

PS Pump.

The Power steering pump does make a whine and when you turn the wheel the whine changes a little then returns I would make sure all your connections are on and tight to the pump since its on and off from what you mention. Inspect all electrical cable going to the pump.

Also did you have the fan changed out also. Since you are down there make sure the cable to the fan is tight and if you have the old fan ( I believe the original 2002 did not have the grille ) , it would be insurance with a new pump to replace.

Thanks and hope that helps.

Thanks, I have tried all of your suggestions you have given me above.

I have tried to measure voltages at the three pin pump connector (x6975) that connects to the pump EHPS control module. I have not be able to read any voltage on any of the three pins? I am puzzled because fuse F39 and FL4 (100A) seems to be good?

The cooling fan is working okay and there is no whine noise from the pump.

Any suggestion?

I retested the voltages from the three pin connector (x6975) again and is working. I must have had a loose voltage when testing the pin connector.

It seems all the wiring, fuses and cooling fan are working 100%. I also checked the steering rack boots and there is no leak from the pump fluid.

Last, there is no noise or vibration coming from the pump when the car is running. Should there be some noise and vibration from the pump?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

Took the car to the dealer today. Turned out that the pump had failed again. They replaced the rebuilt pump that still had warranty on it and a free new cooling fan with grille.

This is my fourth pump replaced with only 97,900km on car. Two pumps was replaced by previous owner. I replaced the third pump myself not too long ago this year and now dealer installed the fourth pump today.

Weird, is that common for a very low mileage car pump to fail?

I ordered a new Underbody Paneling #51757201784 and Air Channel #51757201453 to have a better life on the pump.

Thanks.
