I feel bad starting a new thread about my engine fire experience since this one already existed. Does anybody know is this an engineering problem that could cause MINI to have a recall?
Make sure you contact MINI USA and tell them about this problem. I'm on a first name basis with the one of the gentlemen that works at MINI Canada. An engineer from BMW/MINI was sent to examine my car on July 7th I believe. I am still waiting to hear what she/he discovered.

As burning down a car seems to be a safety issue, and this is not an isolated incident, I think MINI or NTSB should be doing something about it. Be sure both know about it.

Just looking in the very tight spaces, I think I see the cable in question and it sits right against a sharp edge. A bit of plastic loom would fix it right up but I can't reach it. That does not explain a burnt motor. A fried motor should blow a fuse. Either case, sounds like a safety design fault.
