HELP: Spontaneous engine bay fire
I have FULL coverage. My policy is actually quite amazing: full replacement value (purchase price and NO depreciation), enhanced forgiveness (for being claims free), platinum benefits (still waiting to be treated like a platinum customer sadly)...
You see-- my insurance company is saying: MINI needs to assume liability. We want to wait and see if they will replace your car. We don't want to give you a cheque for $43 grand (yes-- before anyone comments on the price, please note that in other countries, MINI's are much more money).
I agree though-- my insurance company should have paid off my car, and given me a cheque for the difference by now. It is not fair for ME to be strung along while MINI twiddles it's thumbs and waits 6 weeks to send an engineer to look at the car. Shame on my insurance company.

Threaten your insurance company to sue them for breach of contract. And be sure to mention punitive damages for the breach of contract. There was a case here in the States that the guy got awarded 8 million because it took too long for his insurance company to settle the claim. You have a contract with your insurance company and they should settle this claim.
I think my problem is that I am simply TOO NICE sometimes. I always assume people are telling the truth. I have the burnt car paid off now-- courtesy of my auto insurance. My new car is ready for pickup on Saturday.
Now HERE is another interesting tidbit-- replacing the contents of my car through the home insurance. HUGE PACK OF LIES here. I have EVERYTHING documented and all emails saved. This is the most intersting part...
Apparently a cheque was "mailed" on June 22nd. I was told in an email it takes 5-10 business days.
After waiting 10 business days I emailed the insurance company again. I had not received the cheque. The second time around, she said it takes 10-15 business days.
This made me suspicious. I waited again, then when that time period had come and gone, I sent another email to the insurance agent asking where the cheque was to which she answered saying "I'm sorry. I never sent it. I was waiting to see if I could get your deductible waived. I'll have it sent out tomorrow."
There really is only one word for people that lie to you in a time of need. I can't say it here. I'm quite disgusted.

Really glad to hear this, Carlisle.
Wishing you many, many miles of happy motoring in your new MINI. Be sure to post pics!

Your well wishes are "well received". It has been a trying 6 weeks. I'm happy it is all coming to an end. Thank you so much. It's always nice to hear kind words from my extended MINI motoring family!
I bought the MA that sold me the car a big box of gold edition GODIVA chocolates. I hope he shares with the the rest of the staff!
Carsisle, congrats on getting your replacement MINI.
I think it's cool you bought the MA the chocolates.
As for the other claim, yes, they sometimes really take awhile to get it done. I'm not fond of excuses, either. It took awhile for me to get my settlement cheque when my '02 MCS was totalled. There was a short while where I was sweating bullets because I thought I would end up with two car payments because I needed to pay off the old loan.
Lady Godiva, you're too funny.
You must live right next to the chocolate shop in town.

I got a great deal so I was happy to buy some decadent chocolates for them!
I absolutely LOVE Godiva chocolates. I remember the very first one I ever ate-- it was white, and in the shape of a wedding cake. It tasted of lavender and vanilla. It was the most amazing flavour of anything I have ever had.
Dangerous indeed! For your teeth AND your bank account!

Try taking the cd out the next time you park and see if you here the sound the next time you open the door.
Lady Godiva, you should come up to the Cooper Vineyards tomorrow (http://www.coopervineyards.com/). They have a Noches wine that tastes like chocolate.

And my Boo-tay.

That lavender vanilla chocolate sounds divine. Two of my favorites! Well, three, if you're counting the chocolate.
I have plans tomorrow, but I need to check out the online ordering for that. It sounds amazing! I also love that new ChocoVine. In fact, I may have a glass or three tonight. Hmmm...
(Sorry for the hijack!)

Thank you LadyGodiva! It has been a horrible ordeal... but I believe I came out on top, and am stronger for it! I'm very happy...
I appreciate that you followed me through my ordeal!

Dark Silver is my favorite color. The stripe pattern is cool. Scoop accents well, too.
Lady Godiva, since I have two bottles of Noche at the house, I decided to pick up a full-bodied red and a bottle of mead.
But, man, it was sweltering hot out there.
We're gonna see about scheduling the event earlier next year.

There is yet another VA vineyard with vino chocholate (close?) and that would be Horton's. I went up there after Coopers so that I could get some of their fantastic port and to get some wine for the wife. They have both regular and white chocolate wine. My wife LOVE's the white chocolate wine, almost enough to tolerate the topless ride to the vineyard! Why she doesn't like riding topless, I have no idea but I don't push the issue. Here is a link to their site, they are showing the regular chocolate but not the white, so I don't know if they are not offering it via web sales or if they are just slow in updating their site:http://hortonwine.com/index.php?opti...d=43&Itemid=74
I'm not sure how the thread got from engine fires to wine, but I guess we MC riders need to be flexible!
Yes. I almost never have a CD in there. That is not it.
I also had the same problem with the burned auxillary water pump! Here is a quote from my receipt:
TEST DME FAULT CODE 2F37 AUXILLARY WATER PUMP FOR TURBO CHARGER ACTIVATION FAULT CURRENTLY PRESENT. CHECK AND FOUND AUXILLARY WATER PUMP FOR TURBOCHARGER BURNT, CONNECTOR AND WIRES ALSO BURNT. REMOVED FRONT BUMPMER REPLACED AUXILLARY WATER PUMP FOR TURBOCHARGER, REPLACED CONNECTOR, REPLACED PIN AND WIRES THAT WAS BURNT CHECK AND FOUND POWER AND GROUND AT AUXILLARY WATER PUMP AFTER REPAIRS - BLED COOLANT SYSTEM REINSTALL FRONT BUMPER RESET ADAPTATION AND CLEAR FAULTS
I feel bad starting a new thread about my engine fire experience since this one already existed. Does anybody know is this an engineering problem that could cause MINI to have a recall?

Thanks again to EVERYONE for all your kind words! I never thought my other car could be replaced... but I have to say: I'm having a blast with the new car! Fuel economy is not quite as good-- but the extra power is a trade off.
This car has an engine temperature gauge so at least I will have some warning this time around if things get a little too hot to handle!
