Info should be in the owners manual.

It takes a while for the seat belt chime to start, maybe a few minutes or less. Eventually it should come on perhaps unless you weren't moving and the car had stopped and she was getting out of the car but now I am just poking you.

Your lack of details makes it sound like your "friend" was doing something she shouldn't be doing with her seat belt off while you were driving. Like eating cake and singing out loud with her mouth full at the same time... So what's the real story here???

The real story is not as funny as yours so let stick to the cake maniac (real story: she was sitting on my cellphone, see? Not funny :p)(well, my cellphone was in the space on the middle of the seat)

this could become a very interesting conversation if it was vibrating

Back to the original question.

The real story on the seat belts is that they should alarm (light on dash and chime) within 90 seconds of the belt disconnection.

There are some issues with the way the seat sensor reads the person in the seat. Try this experiment. Have a friend, Preferably a man of at least 160 lbs and have tehm sit int eh seat and drive with the seat belt on, then remove it and see what happens. If the alarm goes off it may just be the way your GF is sitting on the seat. If it does not go off then you willneed to have it looked at by the dealer.

If it goes off with a large man in the seat but not with your GF then have her try to move her position on the seat to see if that changes the alarm when the seat belt is disconnected.

There have been other reports of light weight people not setting of the alarm or air bag light even with teh system working jsut the way it is designed.

Let us know hte out come of your testing.

I would be happy if mine never went off. My seat belt sensor goes off randomly about once a week whether or not there's anything or anyone in the passenger seat. Mini of Sterling looked at it but couldn't find anything wrong. They told me they've seen this on a couple other cars but apparently there's no fix. Starting to drive me a bit more nuts!

I was told this by a MINI service technician about the "door ajar" warning when I commented that mine did not appear to be working (engine running; open door with vehicle parked; no "door ajar" warning), so it may apply to the "no seat belt" warning as well: the vehicle apparently has to be in motion (~10 mph) before the warning will sound.

I've had my seat belt warning go off with a heavy bag of grocery's sitting on the passenger seat. My 50 lb. bulldog will set it off as well. I would agree with timfitz63, the car has to be in motion to set it off.

There are a number of threads on this subject and I personally have put in over 100 hours working on this and the only way is what Oxybluecoop shows in his post.
