noise at 3k rpm...

Hi all, been a long time lurker here with my 03 R53 S but just traded that in last week for a new R56 S and finally need to post on this board to figure out some of the 'whys' that I can't find answers to....

I'll start with my engine noise at 3000 rpm.
-Only happens when engine is warm.
-Can't hear it at any other RPM levels.
-Happens in any gear.

Taking it to service today but the dealership closest to me has been less than stellar in their review of issues (that's why they took my r53 off my hands....according to them, 'nothing is wrong' but the electrical power intermitently shut off...).

So, I'm looking for advice here on my engine noise. Could it be that i'm not used to the turbocharger vs. my old super? the sound is just too loud andonly at a certain RPM tho...

The turbo will kick in at around 3K rpms so that might be the issue like you stated, but you should still hear it at higher rpms if still under heavy throttle and boost. Describe the sound you are hearing.

definitely not exhaust...i know that from my r53 too well

sounds like it's coming from under the bonnet on the passenger side. Sounds like a vibration

Almost like the turbo heat shield is rattling? If so, mine does that too.

got back from mini a few minutes ago and wanted to give the details of what they found.

- found heat shields that were loose and tightened them up
- still had a problem but was better....
- found that the climate control stepper motor flap door (a mouthful!) is defective and have to order a new one.

thanks all for taking the time.

My car sounds electric all the way up to 2.5k and then it sounds like a combustion engine... btw turbo spools up earliest at around 1.5k I mean I can hear it work from 1.5k - 2.0k with air being let out by the wastegate or whatever the stock thing is.

this might be one of my noises. any way to tighten it up, without (another) trip to the dealer?
