need help with horn. there are 2 horns on the mini

but only one works most of the time. i have the light removed and can see the two horns. the horn closest to the engine does not work all the time.

if i tap on it with a tool, it will work for a few beeps and then stops working.

any ideas? i don't see the dealer until may when it goes in for oil change and the single horn sounds like a girly smart car

help!

Try cleaning the contact where the wire is attached. Sounds like it may be corroded. If thats not it, then water may have gotten inside the horn causing the mechanism to stick. A new horn will be required to fix that problem.

Go to an autozone type of place, buy a horn. That way it only will cost $10 to fix. I bet the dealer will hit you for $$ to fix it.
Even if you are under warrenty, I do it. Heck, a horn is a bit of a safety issue, and may is a long time to have only half a horn!!

The horns (1 low frequency and 1 high frequency) are about $38
each from pelicanparts. You can find the part numbers on www.realoem.com .

Either way, I would not fuss with it. Both your MINI's are under factory warranty and I would not mess it up more by replacing OEM parts just yet.

Maybe just check the plug wire contacts, but that would be the extent I would go. My 2 cents.

I'd say it must be a bad horn, I prob replaced 8-10 of them last year.
