Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
Hi.
I got R53 (2006 Cooper S) with HID projector headlights.
I looked up that the car takes D2R/D2S bulb.
I bought the bulb.
Tried to replace it and I found this Sh***T !!!!
What' the F** is that!!???
How the H*** do you take the bulb out of the igniter?
It seems that it's a one solid piece. I broke the damn thing trying to pull the bulb out of that.
Or better yet...how do you convert that thing to different bulb temperature (not stock)
I've attached the picture of what part Im talking about.
the mini xenon seems to be a loyal b*tch when i switched to philips ultinon 6k d2s a year ago i broke both ignitors ended up taking it to the dealer and bought new ignitors and had them do it
Sorry for resurrecting this old thread. I found it as I was having the same problem. I've got an '06 R53 with HID's. What I've learned is that the bulb the OP shows a picture of is a D1S bulb, not a D2S bulb.
The R53 is supposed to use D2S bulbs, but some may use D1S bulbs. My passenger side headlight assembly is factory original, and uses a D2S bulb. My driver's side assembly was replaced in '10/'11 due to an accident, and it uses a D1S bulb. I'm not sure when or why it changed, but you may have 1 or the other. Check them before you fork out the cash for new bulbs.
Also, there is a slight difference in the mounting of the bulb in cars from 07/2004 on, for anyone looking for how to replace the bulbs, we have a DIY here.
