Cam Replacment

Hey have problem with my cam. It is making a loud tick tick sound(like a baseball card in a bicycle wheel). I have just had the car coming on 4 months (60,000miles), and my oil change is due in about 8,000 miles. I figure its the cam because the noise is right on top of the engine and when oil gets low the cam can bend(correct?). the dip stick has the oil level right above the min mark and I have been checking it regularly. I am just wondering if anyone knows the cost to replace the cam? Is it something a engine novice can do on his own? or should I just go dealer/trusted shop? Thanks!

First thing is to add oil to top of dipstick fill line. Will this help? Not sure but it's the easiest thing to do before you spend big $ at the dealership or an independent garage. I always try the simplest things first.

Check to make sure that your oil pan gasket isn't leaking oil.

Low oil does not bend cams. Where did you hear such a thing?

The ticking noise could be a bad lifter? belt tensioner?

if it's a standard pre 07 , i'd say the tick comes on at pre 300 rpms to 4000 rpms and is the dreaded harmonic damper . swap out the crank damper and be done with it . get the ati unit as the face lifts are starting to grenade now , mine included .

Crap! I just posted in another thread that I will look for a used '05-'06 damper. These are pooping too?

The ATI piece is pretty sweet. I'm going for one as soon as I suspect my stock pulley is failing.

I have the same problem with the ticking noise. I just installed my RMW cam today and it is making that dreaded ticking noise. Anyone have any ideas as to what may cause this.
