Coil removal to get to spark plugs...
I went to Lowe's and got this 14mm 12pt deep socket
http://www.lowes.com/pd_337828-25428...&pl=1&Ntt=14mm
I did fabricate a spark plug holder out of fuel tube and installed it in the socket to hold the spark plug.
it was hard to find a 12pt 14mm deep socket - no luck at home depot, advance, autozone, harbor freight in my area. they all had 6pt only.

Watch it has to be e thing wall or it might get stuck.
We have the 14mm 12 point here: 14mm Deep Well Spark Plug Socket - 3/8" Drive also ours has a magnetic end to hold the plug. I used it to do the plugs on my R56 MCS and my R58 JCW.

Archimides said to do it this way
Just to add another post to this old thread - - -
On the subject of removing the coils ... I flip up the clip, unplug the connector and leave the clip open. Pass a long-ish screwdriver or similar tool through the clip and rest the pointy end on the valve cover. Pull up on the screwdriver handle with a firm, even pressure and the coils just pop off. I've done it this way several times and haven't damaged one yet.

I thought about screw driver help but stayed outside the coil. I worried about breaking the clip.
Shocking to me but I have been driving for over 63 years now. It is getting harder to do things now.
Worked with no drama.
