I now have 108k+ on my 2007 Mini Cooper and I have just hit my first issue. After placing a case of beer in the back of my car, I started the car and now the chime (door, seatbelt, etc) will not stop. I have my seatbelt on and all of the doors are closed but it continues to ring. I even reclosed all doors (including hatch) but still the ringing. It rings even while I am driving. When I stop and take the key out, it continues to ring. Has anyone come across this before? I have 128 miles to drive to get the car home and it is very annoying.

maybe disconnect the battery for a little bit? sounds like something might just need to be reset

Its simple, The car wants a beer, give it one and it will stop WHINING

 

any lights lit? maybe the cargo nudged something that's blocking whatever senses the hatch is actually closed.

 

There were no lights on when the bell kept ringing. I just went out to the car and it stopped. This is very weird since there were no lights, all seat belts were fastened and all doors were closed.

As for the beer idea.... I should drink the case and then I won't hear the ringing anymore.....

it happened to me once. It chimed for about 10 minutes, I pulled into a gas station, open and closed everything, and then finally it just stopped on it's own as I was pumping gas. My guess it was something to do with the seat belt sensor, but it's just a guess.

 

I have this problem occasionally when I do things in the wrong order (seatbelt, door open, key in). Normal measures like turning the car off don't work. I think you just have to try to figure out what caused it and then reproduce that step without making the sound go off and that will make it stop. I usually turn everything off. Get out, get back in, put seatbelts on, door closed, and try to turn car back on. Usually, some sequence of those steps will make it stop.

 

Try the back hatch again, thats what happened to me the other day too. I couldn't figure it out but then i went and opened it and then closed it it stopped for me.

 

I drive an 07 MCS and this issue has happened five or more times. First time the dealer replaced both seatbelts. After six months or so happened again. I think it has something to do with the steering wheel lock. Heres why. The last two times this event took place I removed the key, placed the car in netrual, rolled the car a bit while shaking the wheel (lightly from left to right right to left), put the key back in and chimed stopped. Hope this helps.

 

When the dealer called back, they stated that they never heard of this issue. Doesn't surprise me though. Thanks for all of the advice. Hopefully this won't happen again.

108k+ wow I thought I had alot with almost 80k

 

I get this frequently. When I get this isn't because, similar to mooo, door is open, seat belt is clicked in and i hit the ignition and then close the door.

I haven't figured out how to stop it consistently. But locking the car and arming the alarm twice will stop it after a few minutes. Sometimes, taking the fob out will work. Other times i have to get out, arm the alarm, unlock the alarm, open the door, shut the door, arm the alarm again, disarm, get in the car, close the door, seat belt in, THEN ignition.

The first time, the chime went for an entire work day and stopped when i was getting in the car to head to the dealer at the end of the work day.

 

UPDATE? Have you gotten it to stop using any of the ideas here or some Voodoo magic?

 

I had this issue yesterday. Sat in the car trying to figure out WTF and couldn't do anything to get it to stop.

Got oout of the car and closed the door. Still going.
Locked the door. Still going.
Unlocked the door. STOPPED.

Got in and drove away. I noticed a thread in the electrical forum about a computer program you can use to program some modules. (Including turning off the seatbelt chime.) Going to have to look into that.

 

Since there is no Check Control message on the tach I don't think the programming will help! Using DIS v57 or ISTA would be the best course of action to see if any error codes or conditions are found in any of the modules.

 

It happened to me twice before. Both incidents in my case seemed to be related to the fuel level. As I filled up the tank, it stopped. How annoying.

 

Next time you have the chiming problem look for the little triangle with an exclamation point in between the odometer and trip odometer. If it is there then there is a Check Control message that you can view.

Use the stalk BC button to get to the >SET/INFO, then press and hold BC until you see Check Info. Press and hold again to get into view the message(s) icons. Quick press the button to scroll through the messages. Use your owners manual to figure out what the message icon means.

Also, when you are viewing the message icons, if you press and hold the BC button for something like 30 seconds you will get the actual ID code of the error that will help pinpoint the issue.

damn that's a bunch of miles! I only have just over 25k on our 07 Cooper...need to get out there and motor.

I really don't like that chime...cannot imagine having to drive around with it going non-stop ..sorry but your post really got me laughing..just the thought of it.

 

I Have over 300,000 miles on my Tahoe. And runs better then half the new vehicles. Just the seatbelt chime goes off when I apply gas
