My car has a evil demon inside

Ok so it's been raining in Rhode Island for the last month seriously. Yesterday we had a huge storm roll through and crazy amounts of rain. So this morning I jump in the mini roll the windows down and pop the sunroof because it's finally sunny out. I drive to my destination and roll the windows up and close the sunroof. I then notice this little sounds coming from the door locks like they were trying to go up and down put didn't have enough juice well it only last a few seconds so I jump out and closed the door. To my surprise both windows roll them self down and the sunroof pops open I loose all the functions on the key fob so I can't lock the car or pop the boot. So I jump in the car and start it roll the windows up and close the sunroof. Jump out again same problem. I tired 3 more times same thing keeps happening. I deiced to discount the battery and see if that helps but it doesn't same problem but now I can keep the windows closed but can't lock the car every time I lock the car with the now working key fob the car unlocks itself. I called mini and I can't bring it there till Tuesday and I don't have a garage. This sucks and I'm so sick of my crappy mini braking every 3 months this is just getting ridiculous.

Sorry to hear. I don't think it has an evil demon...maybe just a defective FRM or Footwell Module.

BTW...i've had it with the rain around here, felt like Seattle up until today.

So I went to test the windows after the car has been sitting for a couple of hours. So now the windows won't stay up like before i'm not sure how I got them to stay up that one time but whatever. The windows just roll them selfs down every time I get out so what I did was discount the positive side of the battery after I rolled all the windows up and closed the sunroof so now the car is sitting in my driveway all closed up and waiting for Tuesday.

Yikes. Nothing worse than an electrical problem. If they can't fix it lemon law it as soon as you can.

I've also noticed that my fog light connectors have a slight corrosion build up. These connectors aren't as stout as my Jeep Wrangler's which have a rubber boot around them. 12k on the clock Moisture is not good in electrical connectors.

Also change out the battery in your remote to rule that out as a problem.

My car has had a lot of problems and Mini USA contacted me about 2 months ago but nothing came of it. How do I go about contacting them to see what they can do. I really don't want to lemon law it but at this point my car goes about 2 months before some huge problem occurs. Just to list my problems I have had and my car on has 15k on the clock. (1 New Full Transmission Replaced, 2 Crank Seal Gasket's, 1 AC Compressor, and now this problem, plus the car had another problem before i owned it i'm not sure what it was but I saw the work order last time I was at the dealer)

So my car has been sitting since Friday with the battery disconnected. Tonight I deiced to give it a try and see what happens. Reconnect the battery start the car drive about 5 mins stop roll up all the windows stop jump out and booom everything works like normal. I tried to reproduce the problem but failed I have no idea whats going on. Tomorrow I'll do some more testing and call mini to see what they think but as of right now the car doesn't have any problems. It's interesting because the day it happened I couldn't get the windows to stay up at all and now today the car works like factory spec.

Hose down the driver's door really well. Just the door area. See if it comes back. Then try the other door. If you can, park the car where it was when it rained for all those days.

Sorry to say, It probably just dried out.

Poss water damage.

Big Joe. did this only occur after rain fall. I think the Footwell module got wet. You have water leaking in somewhere. Do me a favor. Check your Pass side floor carpeting and side carpeting and see. if its wet. If it is or damp. Then
maybe windshield seal leaked or sunroof. and now since no more rain the module is dry. But you will have more weird occurances if the unit got wet. its located on the pass side footwell right side inback of plastic panel. Hope this
helps.

Everything is dry but I did realize what may of caused the problem. See i'm house sitting for my parents and I parked in driveway were my dad usually puts his truck. The parking spot is on a 20% - 30% pitch. So my drivers door was on the low side and the passenger door was on the high side. Maybe due to the pitch water got in somehow. I have never parked the mini there before while it was raining so this would be why is happened also the rain that day was just insane.

Bigjoeski08, MINI may not say it, but they are aware of this problem. Do a search here for "windows rolling down." It has happened many times to many people. I think mine ('09 MCS) has now been repaired. I am waiting for the next cold rain to find out for sure. I should be able to tell by October, if not sooner.

My ('08 Justacooper) windows were having some issues - minor compared to yours - and the dealer replaced the "footwell module" at my first and only service. They also did some kind of software update. All has been working perfectly for more than a month - and we've had nothing but rain and wet weather since then. Hope your problem is dealt with as simply as mine!

I have a MCS -07 with exactly the same problem. Sometimes I park on the street at my girlfriends apartment in a big city and this issue is very annoying. It started approx. 4 weeks ago and after a weekend with a lot of troubleshooting (I used to work for BMW Group) I thought I had solved it. I rolled out the "Footwell module" since this known issue from older models should have, according to my old colleagues at BMW, been solved in the R56. I thought it was due to an unfortunate automatic jet-wash with too high pressure at a bad angle or similar and I let the car dry out for a good day in heated garage (it was freezing temepratures outside) and voila, the problem was gone. Anyway, now "the demon" is back again :-( I have checked the carpet and cables going to the FRM and there is no sign of water or damp areas. Right now I've removed the fuses for the central locking and automatic windows - otherwise it is impossible to park and lock the car. Before handing over the car to a dealer for a costly repair (I have no warranty anymore, took it with me from USA -> Sweden), do anyone have a last opinion on what to do in order to expel the demon ?

I can vouch for this too, Mine just had the exact same problem during the last heavy rain we had before this one. They said it was the door lock actuator, Although I still need to have the door lock cylinder replaced too. idk what happened to that but they didn't have the parts in at the time.

I'm just glad that I parked mine in the garage every night. I would come out in the morning and for sure find the windows open and the car unlocked. If you leave the battery connected over night you will awake to the same thing. so for that couple of days I had to disconnect my battery at home and work, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

See this post if you need anymore info. I have a couple of threads in there, I was quite irate by the end of the whole situation.

The dealer did the "fix" for the ghostly windows. There is a service bulletin about it. They check and grease the door harness connector for corrosion. They did find some on my car.

Hey 33EJB-
I've posted on the thread about dogs in Clubmans, but I'm glad I clicked on your 'Demon' - Junior. You can see my two demon Bostons in my MINI in my gallery.
(off topic, I know, but it's a more fun thread than electrical problems)
