Need advise - VIN Mystery...

R56 Manufactured 08/09.
As I was setting up MINI Roadside Assistance on my Blackberry, I discovered the VIN on my dashboard did not match the VIN printed on the door panel.

After contacting the dealer, MINI is recommending they print a new plate, send it to my dealer and have the dealer install it... Should I let them do this?

Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it happening before? What else is mismatched in my MINI

As a cop I have never heard of it. I have seen people receive the wrong license plates. Have mini check your computer to find out which is the correct vin. The vin is in a few places on the car. Make sure the DMV has the correct vin also.

Thanks for the advise Mabbottusmc! I didn't think about checking with DMV.

This would also imply that there is at least one other MINI out there somewhere in the world with the same problem.

Are you the original owner? sounds fishy to me. (Not unusual in the classic mini world, though)

Is there a Vin stamped on the top of the strut-tower in the engine bay? That is the simplest 2nd vin to check on a 1st gen...maybe the door got replaced at the port or something...or maybe the guy working just stuck the sticker to cars in the wrong order!?
Since you bought the car new, you are safe...if it was used...there would be things clones, etc to worry about.

Be sure and confirm your new VIN with your insurance company too. Don't want any unexpected problems down the road....
