Car crapped the bed on the highway yesterday. Mini dealer in hartford ct says the coil is fried, and dcm computer module? is also dead. $2000.00 bad. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas how it happened...?

coils go bad all the time. not uncommon.

New country MINI in Hartford CT? Well at least you are at a good dealer. I know one of the SA's there and he is a great guy.

In any event I remember seeing a thread on NAM with the gist being that because the ECU is responsible for controlling the cars emissions it is covered under an extended warranty of some sort (in the same way you cat is). You might want to look into that.

As far as how it happened... I bet that when the coil died it took the ECU with it.

 

ecu's are covered under the emissions 8/80 warranty.
