Speedo, Tach and Computer Dead

In October, the tach, speedo and computer in my R56 went dead. I drove to work, anyway and, by the time I left work everything was fine. Coincidentally enough, I had my first scheduled maintenance the next day. The service guys couldn't troubleshoot the problem, they said, because they couldn't reproduce it.

Now, they've all gone dead again. The dealer, of course, tells me that I need to make the three-hour trip over. And, if these should start working again, he tells me it won't be worth the trip because they won't be able to troubleshoot if it's working. So, I have to hope that the drive over is without speedometer, tach and computer. Nice irony.

Any insight into or experience with the issue would be greatly appreciated. (I did see the earlier similar posts. And, no, I didn't just have the windows tinted )

One other note: I thought it might be a loose fuse or wiring. However, I can't even get the fusebox open. Is there some trick to this? Again, R56, less than a year old.

Thanks.

Does the computer lose all of the trip info? It sure seems like the service department should have some wiring diagrams that could at least give you something to check before 6 hours of round-trip driving.

I miss the amount of service info and online tech available with my Audis, but I don't miss working on them constantly.

Why can't MRA come get your car, deliver it to the Dealer, then deliver it back to you when the work is completed.

Not sure what dealer your dealing with but it sounds like they "DGARB" about the issues your are having...LAME!!

IMHO

I agree, tell them the vehicle is not drivable, and have them flat-bed it to the dealer. Without proper instrumentation, it is not safe to operate. Also, with an electrical failure like that, who know what else might give out on the highway?

Resolution

For now, the problem's resolved. I got the fuse box open, jiggled the blue wiring harness and pushed the proper fuse in tighter. The lights came back on, though the check engine light is now on. I expect that will go off on its own in the next few days.

Thanks.
