Clunking sound from first to second..
I guess I have gotten used to it but my dad drove in my MCS and he heard the sound and thought it was strange. It happens only from first to second gear no matter how hard/fast/slow you shift. The slower you shift the quieter the sound but it is still there.
Yes, the shift in the MCS from 1st to 2nd is very loud for me. You can hear it with windows up, but it's quite a *thunk* with windows down. I hear a much smaller click in the other gears, but there is a lot more engine/road noise at higher speeds, so it might not be as audible.
I have inquired about this before on here, but no one was much interested...so what does everybody think? Is this a concern? In my humble experience, clunks tend not to be good things.

I am getting a clunk followed by a slight muted buzz that can be felt while holding the shifter. Only when going from 1st to second. Although I haven't downshifted into second much since I am still breaking it in. I was planning on putting it my list for my first service. Anyone else ever felt this ? Should I be concerned ? I have had difficulty getting it to go into 6th at times as well come to think of it.

I think I read something about alternate gears being on different shafts? becasue of the space considerations for the Getrag tranny. The MCS is either a 3 shafter or a 2, whichever deviates from the norm, by design. Are we hearing the clunk because of the change from 1 shaft to the other? Sorry I can't be more specific, I think it was in a PDF about MCS design changes from the MC. I'll post the link if I find it.
Ah the 80's, I must have been there because I can't remember a thing !!

I drive 15 diffrent minis a week, they all do it.
Gotta love cable shifters
Older rod type shifters have a much more positive feel but in the new age of automobiles, space is very important, rod shifters take up more room and cable shifters take up less room.
My wifes new Sentra has a clunk from 1st. to 2nd. and everyone else with a Sentra Spec V has the same problem.

I asked Randy that klunk question when he was driving my MINI after the pulley installation. He said it was normal. He knows what he is talking about and hey, he seems to. So. A feature of the MINI, it is.

...as long as it's no grinding, right?
Actually, I kinda like the sound. Metalic and rather solid. I do a fair amount of city driving (DC), and like the sound of it...(after I figured out there was no damage being done).
