Difficult Shifting Please Help

I have a manual 04 MCS and I have recently been having a very difficult time shifting especially into 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears but still a little problem in the other gears. It feels like it's...mooshing (for lack of a better word )... into gear. It causes me to grind gears occasionally which obviously is not a good thing. Is there any way I can check transmission fluid levels or otherwise troubleshoot this issue? I have been driving a manual my whole life (i'm 18 so not that long) but my point is I know how to drive a manual.

On another note, I have grinding in my steering wheel when I turn to the extreme left or right. Completely different issue but I was hoping someone could tell me what I could do about either or these problems.
Thanks in advance,
Taylor

Guessing your clutch is not totally releasing.

Does your clutch pedal feel soft? Leaking fluids under car? Brake fluid low or brake alert light on?

Quite possibly a clutch slave or master (works off brake fluid) is puking/puked. Symptoms are similar when mine went, until the brake light started coming on and had low brake fluid. Then once the slave gave out it could not go into gear and had 1/2 clutch pedal and then noticed brake fluid leaking under car.

Just a semi edimicated guess.

My husband's Corvette recently did exactly the same thing. New clutch slave cylinder made it good as new.

While not necessarily the issue, I'd replace the manual transmission fluid while you are at it ...

About $65-70, master is about the same also. Figure ~$250 labor to install/bleed.

I had the same issue with my clutch and thought it might be the throw out bearing. My old Nissan had one go and it felt very similar. I took my MCS in for service expecting them to need it for a few days, but they simply removed, cleaned and re-lubed all of the transmission linkage and it feels great now.

weird thing... all of the sudden the problem is gone. Shifting pretty smooth now. I didn't do anything so i'm kind of confused.
