cooling fan 5 amp. fuse help

Hi
I have just replaced my radiator fan on my 02 Cooper S. Now it keeps blowing the 5-amp fuse that controls the relay to the fan. I've looked at a lot of posts about this and am wondering if it may be the power steering pump fan blowing the fuse. I do not have a wiring diagram. Are these two things on the same circuit? The power steering fan has never been replaced. I took it to a shop to check an ABS problem and they told me I need to change my pws hoses, it is pretty dirty so maybe this is the cause.
One more question the shop I took my car to is a good BMW independent shop. They told me I need an ABS control module ($1000 installed) I'm getting both an ABS light and a low tire light. If I shut off the car and restart it the Low Tire light and the ABS go out. They always come back on at the same time. Also when the lights are out the ABS will engage even on slow stops. I have cleaned all the wheel sensor and no change.
Sorry for the long post but I really need some help.
Thanks

OK, on my 02 Cooper I had to have the PS fan and the rad fan seperated from each other cuz they were on the same circuit, have you had that done? I'm not positive it was a recall but I know it was an issue......the wires were seperated and an external fuse holder was put in place, they put it over by the ABS/DSC pump.......

I also had to have my DSC pump replaced. My ABS and low tire lights were on and I also thought it was the wheel sensors......turned out to be the DSC pump.....it was pretty expensive ($1800.00 installed).....

I would get the wiring update done to make the wiring 2 different circuits. But you'll have to disconnect the p/s fan to see if that is causing your short in the mean time. If it is you can just do the update and replace the P/S fan and be good to go.

I asked the service writer at my local Mini dealer about the wiring up date he said that my car was not one that needed it so it was never done. My build date is 04/2002 so I don’t know if I need it or not.
This may be a stupid question but do I disconnect the ps fan and drive it like that? It is in the mid 90 and I don’t wont to burn up my ps. Is their a certain time the ps fan comes on or does it just do it on temp
Thanks for the help

I disconnect my ps fan and the fuse did not blow. I then reconnect it and the fuse still did not blow. The ps fan did not turn on; I tried with the A/C on, then I let the car idle till the cooling fan turned on still no ps fan. I believe that my ps fan is bad but for now no fuse is popping.

I think that the service writer might be blowing smoke up your dress. If I remember right, the running change was done long after 04/02.
Search the posts; it's in there somewhere.

Thanks I thank you may be right.
When I had the ps fan off I tested it with a spare battery I have and the fan worked great (smooth and quite). I tested the leads to the fan with the cooling fan running and got 0 voltage. I'm not sure it’s the fan. I am hoping it’s not a bigger problem.
Between this and the ABS I ready to give up
Thanks for all the help

Take off the p/s fan and see if you can spin it EASILY with one finger. If you cannot or it feels notchy, you may be able to just replaced the EPS fan (Electronic Power Steering). The wiring will prevent it from happening in the future as the EPS fan is located on the underside of the vehicle. But just replacing the fan for now will get you by and keep you from buying a P/S Pump!
