clutch help
I have an annoying squeek problem with my clutch.
You do not need to start the car to hear the squeek the sound is comming from below the clutch pedal from the rubber boot.
If you use your hand and just press the clutch a few mms you hear a squeek.
I have no scraping and no problems with my clutch.
I do not want to take it to bmw to be charged £90.00 per hour.
any help would be appreciated.
regards

Do you feel like there is extra resistance on the pedal when you press it? Like it's rubbing on something? I had a release bearing go bad a few times and I had a rubber on rubber sound and feel. Does it get better or worse when the car gets hot? or does it stay the same?
It could be either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder beginning to go. It could also be the release bearing. If you don't get any change in feel with the clutch, I wouldn't worry much. Just pay attention to where the clutch begins to engage on the pedal. If it begins moving closer to the floor, or you can feel the rubbing or stiffness in the pedal, then start to worry.
It's hard to tell where noise is coming from with the hydrolics because they transmit the noises through the system. My release bearing was rubbing and it sounded like it was coming from the actual pedal.

With one new clutch I had, the engagement was pretty close, but over a couple hundred miles, it broke in and got better. I would call the dealership and let them know. If it doesn't get better soon, have them look into it.
good luck!
good luck!
Thanks! Yeah when they first put it in it had no stiffness what so ever and it was very very close to the floor but over time it wore in and now it is nice and stiff like i like
and i dont mind the engage point my service manager said everything on it functions as it should. It shift better than ever and never any harsh squeels jots etc. So i guess all is fine w/ it. Maybe some clutches are different. How far off the floor is the start of your engage point?
