R56 service / brake lights etc reset procedure
very old thread, but I followed a link to this post for being the solution to resetting service lights when the "normal" process didn't work. This didn't work either. I held that **** down until I had a reset-button shaped hole in my finger and nothing. But then I toggled the BC button off of the airbag warning fault, followed the process again, and voila! So I'd edit this post to include a step
1.5) clear any fault in the display by pressing the BC button so that the fault is replaced with the time/mileage (or whatever it is) display
Once I did this I could clear the brake warning, the brake fluid warning, and one or 2 others that had accumulated over the years. Maybe this is common knowledge or maybe not everyone has the airbag warning light. But I have a feeling that the folks who can't reset using this or the other ways have an error in the speedo display.

I had my brakes on my 07 R56 cooper done this week by an independent mechanic. He downloaded the following procedure from his database. (alldatapro.com)
1) Sit in car, close door and turn ignition on.
2) Press and hold trip reset button for 10 seconds.
3) The upper display in the tach will be illuminated with a service item. the lower display in the tach will indicate the remaining time or mileage left for that service item. Pressing the BC (board computer) button repeadtedly on the end of the turn signal stalk wil allow the display to scroll through all of the condition based service items.
4) to reset, press and hold the bc button again and the lower screen will indicate reset.
5) Pressing the bc button only resets the item displayed in the upper window only. Repeat the procedure for any additional service reset needs.
This seems alot simplier than the one posted. I had him reset the brakes and oil indicator. It did work just fine, although new brake sensors are required for the brakes.
