Reset Service Oil reminder

YES, I have searched and read the many posts. BUT on my 04 MC the process does not work Any ideas ? Here is what I am doing

Press and hold the trip odometer button.
Insert car key and turn it to the first position.
Watch for the word "RESET" to appear on the Odometer indicator.
Release the trip odometer button, then press & hold it again.
Wait for the "RESET" message to flash.
Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
The Service interval is now reset to 10,000 miles

I never get a RESET message

RE:reset service reminder

Try this:
1. Push the Trip Button
2. Turn ignition key to position 1 and 51A will appear to left of mileage
3. Release trip button
4. Wait 3 seconds
5. Push trip button
6. Wait (5-8 seconds) for RST to appear in left corner
7. Release trip button
8. Push trip button
9. 15000 will appear as new service interval
10. Release trip button

I had to do this several times (3) before it worked on my 04 MCS and it reset to 15500 but that is OK with me.

OK, I must be a dufus, or my MINI is

I have tried all the suggestions on resetting the Oil Service reminder and none have reset it yet

Everything seems to display just as listed BUT the reminder never actually resets.

Can this be reset by an OBD II code reader ?

The procedure worked extremely well on my 04. It reset at 15500. I am very happy that I did not need to buy the Peake oil reset/fault code reader tool.

Can it be set for a lower number, like 5000 or 7000?

I do my own oil change now and the factory 3yr/36k maint. is already expired. Do I need to wait until it gets to zero before doing the reset? I have had the car for almost 4 years, the counter never reaches zero after 4 oil changes, 2 factory (low-mileage annual oil change) and 2 self done.

Hi fellow Motorists:

Need a little advise here. I attempted to reset the oil change counter because it's down to 75 and my factory covered maint was expired. I have been changing oil myself since. I tried following the instruction found in the Alliance news letter and it did not look like anything I read. Here is what I saw on the car:

1. Pressed and held trip button
2. Switched key to 1st position
3. Saw "reset" then "51A" showed
4. Released and held down trip button again
5. Nothing happened no matter how long it was pressed
6. Tried couple more times, and one time I saw "END" appeared
7. Somehow, the "inspection" counter shown with "15500" miles

Now, instead of showing oil interval everytime I start the car; it only shows "Inspection mile" counting down from 15500. Is it normal, did I do something wrong. My ride is a 2006 model and the counter was never reset by the dealer due to very low miles driven.

Could you please offer any advise? Thanks.

Just did mine 30 seconds ago. Prior to the 51A, it showed 'test' on the right side -- had to hold the button in a while before the 51A showed up.

Also took 3 times before it reset for me.

In any event, thanks for posting the how-to. If only everything this car needed was that cheap & easy...
