another weird noise thread

Ok here is what is going on: 2005 MC

I get a noise like something is either loose or rubbing from the driverside firewall. I've checked everything visually and physically checked the suspension.

it is deffinitely a "rotational" sound, as pushing in the clutch, hitting the brakes, putting it in Neutral, turning left or right all have no effect on the noise.

It starts at about 30mph and goes away at 30 mph

any ideas?

don't drive at exactly 30mph.

have you tried sitting in the passengers seat while someone else replicates the problem, to tell if you localized the sound properly?

it's anything over 30 mph

the sound is coming from the drivers side of the engine compartment, possibly by the wheel

Any damage to the CV boots (inner or outer)? Try putting the front up on jackstands and running it up to 30mph in each gear (careful there!). With the wheel hanging down on the suspension, it would eliminate any tire rubbing.

jacked the car up on the drivers side, removed the wheel. I spun the rotor and heard the noise coming from the drivers side of the "differential"
jacked up the pass side, spun the wheel, noise still coming from the drivers side of the diff.

no visibal (sp?) damage anywhere or to any of the cv boots. WTF?
