Oil Smoke at Start Up
Oil Smoke at Start Up
My late build MCS with 5000 miles has just started (within the last 1000 miles or so) to smoke immediately after a cold start. It is positively oil and the amount of smoke is greater after not being started for a few days. The car runs fine and the smoke clears quickly. Anyone experiencing the same. Thanks in advance.
Oil level is just below full mark, not overfilled. Only smokes after it sits overnight, immedietely after starting. Seems oil is getting into the combustion chamber when engine is cool. Valve guides? I will be monitoring oil consumption very closely now.
have you changed your oil at all?
I switched synthetic blends on one the the WRX's I had, and oil started getting past the oil seal in the turbo. I switched back to the other brand and the smoke went away.

this is common with a valve guide seal issue . if the car sat for an extended period like a year or something ; the seals could crack maybe . but if it's used often then i'd say a seal or more has prematurely failed .
Followed break in procedure prescreibed in OM, limited RPMs to below 4000. Changed oil and filter once at 350 miles using Mini Castrol and Mini filter. Car is my daily driver so it is used 6 to 7 days a week. Just returned from a 450 (highway) mile trip so I will check oil level to see if there was noticable consumption during the trip. Thanks to all that replied!
