The Navigation System does NOT work!!!
We aren't defending MINI for system that has FAULTS. We are disturbed by your attitude, not about what you don't like about your MINI, but toward every poster here who dares to challenge any of your assumptions and declarations. Now, how about providing the actual quote? Oh, I know. You don't give a crap about what we think......
Actually LynnEl, he cannot provide the email as email is a copyrighted work, by default. He would have to ask permission to provide the proper quote. As he will probably not do that, his best recourse is to remove the quotes from what he claims they may have said. Right now he is misrepresenting the facts, as a best case scenario.

And PS-the emial sent to me is not copyrighted. I could post it here all I want with no leagal ramifications. But I am not in the practice of putting other peoples emails online, especially when there is pending litigation.
Since you must work for MINI, why don't you stop wasting time on defending the problem, and simply fix it?
Mr. Birdman. With your attitude, I am suprised that you got any response from Mini. Maybe you didn't? The way you are acting, I wouldn't try and help you. The NAV works. Nothing is perfect. There are a lot of silly posts here and yours are some of the worst. I find this forum great for answering questions and it helped me when I had a question that the dealer could not help with. I got the answer here and passed it on to my dealer. I am amazed at how many folks are so upset over minor issues. I have an 07 MCS and am very happy with my dealer, the car, and service. Delivery was just as promised. Maybe my comment about satisfaction will offset some of the negative postings here. Grow up, Mr. Birdman.
Does that mean we should take the other $2,100 and flush it down the toilet? Think not. MINI should, AND WILL, FIX THE PROBLEM.
It's a very simple problem to fix, and they will fix it. From what an insider has told me, it is already being fixed.
But the system does work as advertised, people have shown how you can can find businesses based on the POI feature. The fact that it doesn't work in a fashion that YOU consider appropriate isn't a failure of the system to perform as advertised, it's a failure of the system to perform in a user friendly fashion.
First, why would I provide YOU with one of my personal emails? I stated to you, what the jist of the email was, and that is VERY accurate. And again, I really don't care what YOU think. My message is directed at MINI, not Lynn. Lastly, why do you care? Unless of course you are affiliated with MINI?? If you don't like my attitude, don't read my posts. Just throw a copy of the yellow pages in your boot, and off you go.... goold luck.

You make 2 incredible claims: 1. That Mini told you in writing to essentially go blow (although, I must say, based on your attitude in your posts I would not be totally surprised) and, 2. That there is "pending litigation." While you come into NAM to rant and threaten and apparently do so to gain the NAM community support for your cause (or why bother), you refuse to substantiate either of your claims and accuse anyone who asks you to of working for MINI. It's plain and simple purile conduct. Just as punching someone in the nose doesn't make you right, neither do your attacking words.

Well, you just proved how little you know or want to know. How many links do you want before you understand email can be a copyrighted work and it is recognized to be copyrighted world wide? It is one of the few things everyone on the planet actually agrees on as it pertains to Internet usage.
For the most part (I will endeavor to explain),you cannot post the contents of an email to a public place without permission from the creator of that email. You cannot forward an email received from someone else without thier permission. These have been upheld in federal court.
One of the gray area regards excerps. There have been cases where suits have been brought and won when excerps were used without permission. There are also cases where excerps were acceptable to use. These had to do with the content and whether or not they contained anything altering the original intent or not conveying any information on intellectual property.
The work in question has to do with intellectual property (Mini's) and thus is automatically a copyrighted work as the work is original in content (i.e. created by someone at Mini regarding thier own IP).
Before you go posting emails, you might want to read up on what liability you can incur in doing so.

Email is NOT copyrighted, PERIOD. Just as a letter is not copyrighted. Unless of course, you get it copyrighted. Anycase, WHO CARES? I did not post the email now , did I?
Did MINI FIX the problem yet?????
Did MINI FIX the problem yet?????
You are great at proving my point. I don't work for Mini (nor am I particularly thrilled with my Mini). I do detest your attitude. Bottom line, you put quotes on something that is not, in fact, a quote. You refuse to post what actually was said. The question isn't why should you care what I think; it's why should anyone embrace your cause or believe what you claim Mini supposedly said? Do you not notice the difference between your posts and all the other civilized ones here? Or are tantrums the way you deal with things in general?

I have NO IDEA what your problem is. My problem is, I bought a product, that does NOT function. I am trying to get the company who made it and sold it to me, to FIX IT.
I have NEVER attacked YOU, and I have never attacked ANYONE else on this, or any other forum for that matter. And in fact, I have never attacked MINI, in fact, I sent them a VERY NICE letter, explaining and detaling the problem, and explaing and detailing HOW to fix it. The email I got back, was almost VERBATIM paraphrased to what I posted. PERIOD. Like it or not, THOSE are the facts.
Now you seem to be the one doing ALOT of personal "attacking" (which is forbidden on this forum by the way), and you seem to be asking me alot of questions for which you want answers. You have not answered my only, one simple question to you, WHY DO YOU CARE how I approach getting my softare fixed, why defend MINI for a broken system?
My only possible answer to that question is, you work for MINI. Sorry, but that is just logic.
If you don't like my attidute, then STOP reading the thread, and go enjoy your mini with a copy of the Yellow pages in the boot.

I do not care oif you care or not. I care that others could be mislead with erroneous information.
You implied you posted an excerp from the email, by using quotes. You also stated you can post any email you want without permission. Wrong. Others might actually be interested in doing the right thing.
So I will continue to point to the fact that you are wrong about how email is indeed a copyrighted work when it is an original creation. If you choose to inflict your incorrect opinion on this topic I will continue to warn others your opinion in this matter goes against known facts.
As far as Mini altering the user interface of thier navigation software goes, I really do not keep up with that. How they chose to implement thier software is thier choice. If you do not like it, then you should not have bought it. If you did not research it enough before buying it, then that is your issue.
I did not buy it as I did not care for the way it worked.

I suggest before posting your rhetoric about what I posted, re-read what I posted.
And just FYI, the copyright garbage your referring to all over the internet about Email is wrong, and does not hold up in court. Trust me. If you email somebody, for the most part (with only a few exceptions), it has become public domain. Sorry, that's just the way it works. Try lookin gup the recent cases regarding email. The exception is when you expliciitly state that the email can not be forwared, copied or posted elsewhere.
Nice try changing the subject though!!
HAS MINI FIXED THE PROBLEM YET???
"Trust me" from someone who falsy quotes an e-mail, but refuses to post the actual one, or even the relevant excerpt; who claims there is a lawsuit pending but refuses to provide the citation or name of the law firm; and who claims the issue has been broguht to a dealer's attention that claims to know of no such thing (although, on that count, I would not put it past a Mini dealer to lie). And, why do I care, he asks. Because the purpose of these posts is to disseminate information. If the information is suspect, what good is it?

Let me make this easy. Anyone wanting to use your opinion against published fact is free to do so as long as they understand the liability they will incur.
Here is an excerpt from a legal brief that pertains to this situation:
"However, when forwarding, archiving or, say, using part of a prior message, be careful not to change the original meaning. No one impliedly authorizes another to attribute to them an embarrassing (or worse) message they did not write!" - Franklin Pierce Law Center
Your quote directly changes the original content and that is what is wrong here. I am not in violation here as this is in the public domain and I am given credit to the author. It also expresses ideas which cannot be copyrighted.
Again, your opinion flies in the face of fact. I prefer fact over your opinion. I realize copyright law may be "garbage" to you, but many people do take it quite seriously.
And one more time. I did not but the NAV system because I did not care for the way it worked. Why did you buy something you did not like, would seem to be a better question?
Last edited by Skuzzy; Dec 11, 2007 at 01:40 PM.
Not everyone purchased the NAV for POI use. We use ours for point-to-point navigation. We know the address of our destination and simply enter that. I think titling the thread as you have, does a disservice to those people contemplating the system. My wife has used it for the 9,000 we have on our car and it has been a lifesaver. When we were in Washington DC for a wedding, with no knowledge whatsoever of the streets, we were able to get to all the places we needed to because of the NAV. And on the way down, the real-time traffic got us out of some bad jams.
I wouldn't dissuade someone because a few complainers can't find Pep Boys or Long's drugs. If you know Long's drugs is down the road, then why do you need the NAV.
I've sat by quietly and quite frankly, Birdman, it's my opinion your post are quite tedious. As William Shattner once said on SNL, "get a life". In the big scheme of things, this is drivel; maybe you could put your efforts to better use, maybe cure hunger.

In your own post you use the term "reasonable manner" which still suggests to me that your complaint is based more on how you desire the system to perform rather than any actual fault or false advertising regarding the system's abilities.

The indirect quote is accurate, period. Nuff siad.
You guys are funny. Don't post somebody else's email, it's illeagal to do so. Ok, now, please post the email so we can read it!!!
I thought you were not reading my posts?? Funny, you still didn't answer my question but continue to attack me and insinuate my info is invalid. Care to share how you figure that?
Did MINI fix the problem??
As far as I have seen and has been described in threads here the NAV can find POI's.

That doesn't mean MINI should not FIX THE PROBLEM. The post is aimed at FIXING THE PROBLEM, not telling anyone how to make a decision o what to order with their car. That said, I wish somebody had posted this prior to ME spending the $2,100 on it. I wouldn't have.
Now that I own it, I have found that it can't. I want it FIXED. Why is that a problem?
So how do you know my quote is inacurate? Could you possbly be the one at MINIus who wrote it to me??? hmmm. I wonder.
The indirect quote is accurate, period. Nuff siad.

Seems to be a pattern with you.
And to answer your question. There is no problem. You may not like how it works, but that does not make it a problem. That simply makes it an annoyance. If you had done the proper research before opting for this very expensive option, you would have known about this feature and could have made an informed decision.
And one more time, (I've ansered this question from you 3 times now) Because I beleived the advertisements, that state "...you can SEARCH (which implies FIND) over 6 million POI's....".
Now that I own it, I have found that it can't. I want it FIXED. Why is that a problem?

100% positive. Find "J Signs". Oh, it's in the POI db in your MINI. But let me save you some time, you CAN NOT find it. Not possible, and I'm 100% sure there are many others.
And PS- You just posted my text, you broke a copyright law!!!!
And PS- You just posted my text, you broke a copyright law!!!!
Email can be a private communication and contain IP or information pertaining to IP.
Again, how do you know the system cannot find 6 million POI's? All Mini has to do is show there are 6 million POI's listed and they are free and clear. Just because they do not have your POI's listed does not mean there are not 6 million others available.
