Is this guy a Service Indicator ****???

I brought my recent MINI in for its first service just 75 miles before it was due -- but the service guy said MINI would not pay for it if the "service remaining interval" is still positive???

The manual says not to drive the car once the "service remaining interval" on the dash has run out -- I, of course, want to baby my MINI and would prefer to have it done sooner rather than later...

Is this service guy being ridiculous?? It's awfully hard to get it to the dealer EXACTLY when the service indicator says it should be done... Has anyone else brought their MINI in before the "service remaining interval" has completely run out??

Usually they'll do it if you're within a few hundred miles. Around here it takes several weeks to get an appointment, so if you waited until it were at zero to get the appointment, you could be long past when your time arrives.
Is there another SA at the dealer you can talk to?

Thanks! Yeah, this was MINI of Mountain View -- I had an appointment, and it will take several weeks before I could get another... It is much farther, but I may take it to East Bay MINI where I bought my car and where I have found them to be more helpful.

MINI of St. Louis will do it once you are within 1000 miles.

Thanks guys for the feedback!!

Now, I've officially decided the guy at MINI of Mountain View is a service indicator ****.

I was a brand-new customer with a legitimate service appointment -- but instead of rolling out the red carpet, they refused to work on my MINI at the time of my appointment because it was a mere 75 miles short of reaching the 10,000+ mile "service remaining interval"!

75 miles seems awfully ridiculous -- especially when some dealers have worked on cars 500-1,000 miles short of the service interval!!

Worse, they could not fit me in again for at least another week or two! By then I could be hundreds of miles OVER the service interval...

It is much farther for me, but I've decided to take my car to East Bay MINI in Pleasanton -- I figure after this first experience with MINI of Mountain View, it is worth the drive...

And already I was pleasantly surprised to get an email confirmation of my East Bay MINI appointment -- In comparison, Mountain View's online service booking is apparently bogus. The service guy I spoke with said they do not get information about any appointments made online -- so don't even bother!

I too have had a hard time dealing with MOMV and now use East bay and it is currently a 3+ hour one way drive. An When I move to the south bay next month I will continue to drive to East bay.

Same here, my dealer told me anytime under 1,000 miles.

That might be the policy - MINI of Peabody (Mass) said the same thing - so even though my car is approaching 10k I have to wait.

Seems the car monitors oil quality and driving style to change that indicator; maybe do a track day?

I had done a change at 5k myself so it's not as bad as it might be..

I take mine to MoMV and their policy is to do service when indicator is within 500 miles of limit. They have been very helpful and cordial to me. I have nothing but good things to say about Mini of Mountain View.

Well, they weren't sticking to their policy the day I went!! 75 miles is clearly within the 500 mile limit, yet they refused to work on my car despite the fact that I had dragged my *** out of bed early to get my car there on time for the valid appointment that I had booked.

FWIW, I've dealt with Jennifer several times and she's always been GREAT! I've heard less than flattering comments WRT Peter. YMMV.
