I have an 03 mcs. It was smelling like antifreeze so I took it to my mechanic. He said that my thermostat housing and coolant reservoir were both bad. He said the factory therm housing is made of plastic. He said that he has seen aluminum ones before but didn't know where to get them. Does anybody know where I can find an aluminum thermostat housing??? thanks.

 

Was he referring to the t-stat housing or the expansion tank? I've seen aluminum expansion tanks, but not t-stat housings.

he was talking about an aluminum thermostat housing. i wouldn't mind upgrading both of them if i could just find them.

 

Forge makes an Aluminum Expansion Tank.

I've seen it listed on some of the vendor sites of NAM supporters, don't remember who.

 

i just had my thermo housing replaced "under warrenty"
had a bad leak.. all better now..

 

gnat posted the aluminum expansion tank from Forge. I've never seen an aluminum t-stat housing for the MINI, if you do find one, be sure to post it, i'd like to see it.
