strange popping feeling when steering left

I don't really know how else to describe the issue I'm having with my cooper but when I pull away while turning left or when parking and steering to the left, I can feel a bit of give in the steering wheel, almost a slipping of something and the dash makes a slight popping noise.

I had it into the dealer (2 different dealers) but they said there is nothing wrong with the car and it's "characteristics of the car" Which is rubbish as it was not doing this before I had the steering column replaced. But I'm really at a loss now, don't know what to do about it really... They say there is no fault with the cars steering and this is 2 different BMW mini dealers... Strange how it only does it when turning left though...

oh well at least im not the only person who experienced this.

I was talking to a guy i know at the pub the other night, he builds drag cars and fixes other sports cars etc... I said to him about the problem and he seemed to think its something with the steering rack.
