Wind noise sucking the love (Part II) new update
Well folks, I finally picked up my car this morning and before I get into the wind thing; I want to say how much I still love my MCS and how much I missed it while it was a dealer; for a whole week. The MINI loaner was great but no bond, you all know what I mean.
1. Expect long delays, apparently R56 parts are not in stock and dealers are backed up.
2. I was told that the dealer was able to reproduce the sunroof noise and the driver’s side door whistle. (That was great news to begin with)
3. The diagnosis for the door was a bad seal. New gasket was replaced around the complete door.
4. The diagnosis for the sunroof was a bad seal and misaligned. Dealer replaced gaskets and realigned back glass panel and adjusted. The back panel needed a major adjustment, which makes sense because I kept hearing this big roar coming behind me.
5. As expected, I immediately jumped on the interstate; actually hoping for the best and I am happy to report that the wind noise and whistle are gone.
It is a huge improvement to finally hear my engine again at highway speeds. I remember a couple of months, when I trying to open the sunroof it felt as something had gotten caught, perhaps this is when the misalignment happened.
Well, this is over for now and I’m back with a big grin zipping around town.
On a side note, I was driving around in a MC manual, and I could not believe how much quieter the engine is on the MC vs. MCS.
Maybe it is my hearing going bad from all the wind-buffering…

Wind noise from sunroof and driver's side window when closed

Questions:
a. Are these known problems that I don't have to describe to my Mini dealer? Or do they have to test drive my car?
b. How long did it take your Mini dealer to fix the issues (replace the gaskets and realign the sunroof glass)?
c. The seller told me that the free maintenance as well as the warranty were both transferrable. Is that correct?
Thank you for your answers on these. I'm still new and wasn't even sure if these were problems and luckily found this posting describing both the same issues I noticed.

Hi, I just bought a used 2007 MC recently with less than 2000 miles on it. It does have the sunroof. I do seem to have the same wind noise coming from that area (even when the sunroof is completely closed) as well as that driver's side whistle (noticed it worse when it was recently raining that I think it made the seal of the gasket less effective).

a. While these are common problems, I wouldn't say that they're so much known to where the dealer will immediately know what your talking about. It's always best to describe your issue in as much details as possible. Especially if your getting the wind noise every time you drive your MINI, a test drive with your MA so that he can hear it for himself and document everything, is always your best bet. While I've heard of some dealers offering to take a look at the car without test driving it, most will want to so that they know exactly which noise your referring to. Some aren't even willing to look at it any further unless the issue can be replicated.
c. Free maintenance and the warranty (as well as lifetime Sirius if your MINI is so equipped) are in fact transferrable.
Happy Holidays!!!
