Wind noise is sucking the love...

That's it , I'm dropping off the car tomorrow at my local dealership to have the guys look into the excessive wind noise I have been experiencing.

Not sure what others have experienced but above 65MPH I feel like there is a leak on the driver's side and there is a loud dronning sound coming from the back of the car, could be the back glass pannel of the sunroof.....

I was advised that the problem has been documented by others as well so the car may have to be out of commision for a couple of days; getting a loaner car. Hope I don't get stuck with a Corolla....

Several threads exist in this forum on R56 sunroof noise; suggest a quick search to see if anything sounds familiar...

I notice a whistle on the passenger's side which disappears when I roll up the window. This occurs around 75. Haven't looked into it though.

IMO, it depends on what kind of car we've step out from. My Saab at highway speeds is super quiet, so when we got the MCS, yes, it was much louder than what we were used to....to the point that I was tempted as the OP to take it to the dealer to get it checked.

The point about depending what car you step out of is a good one, because my wife's Cayanne is incredibly quite compared to the Mini.

However, the problem is that it has been building up to the point that I feel like I am shouting while in the car. There is contact dronning mostly coming in form behind me and this is where I think the back glass panel may be affected. All this happens above 65MPH..

I have searched other wind noise complaints on this forum and there seems to be problems with the sunroof seals and/or side doors. I remember the car being very quite, so this is really terrible. I am staying optimistic that the dealer will fix the problem, I really like this car...

group hug...

Problems I've read about seem to all be about bad windshield seal. Sounds like you got something different going on, but check out videos in this thread to be sure:

Most likely if the noise is from the sunroof area...

You need a sunroof seal pack - if it's from the door, chances are they forgot the bottom door seal on either door. You'll know if you see the door with holes in it for mounting of the seal and they're suspciously absent.

Good luck and please let us kow what they find out. If you don't mind I'm going to move this over to R56 Stock Issues and Problems

For some reason Mini cares more about wind noise than anything else a guy from Mini should be posting soon telling you he will PM you about the problem .

I also have wind noise or a leak from the driver's side door noticeable at highway speeds. I noticed that the driver's side window was a little crooked and had the dealer adjust it. The noise is possibly better but definitely still there, and now the door seems to stick out a little.

I have yet to bring up the sunroof noise I am also experiencing. I didn't want them messing with too many things at once.

I am eager to find out what your dealer finds.

The only wind noise I've observed is from high speeds from the windshield as some people have noted.

I have the wind noise....it doesn't seem to be loud enough to bother me much though. I only notice it when I'm listening for it.

They wouldnt acknowledge my wind noise as "abnormal" or "significant" at Morristown Mini. I was frustrated and didnt want to wait three weeks for a BMW Engineer to come down. I had started a puma case, but traded in teh car, as I already had enough of its crap.

I hope you have better luck.

Check the black sealant on the outside (and inside) on the rear door. My black tube just above the third brake light at top had come loose in the center. The dealer replaced it

Car has been at the dealer since Thursday... new door and sunroof gaskets were ordered.

I really miss my car... they put me in a Cooper loaner so that was nice at least.

That is it! I was a leaking, kind of whistle coming from behind the driver's window. The dealer was able to reproduce it and thus ordering new gaskets.

After a whole week w/o my car, dealer called and it will be ready for pick up tomorrow.

I am hoping that the wind problem has diminished...I'll post back.

Awesome! Definitely let us know if the problem has been solved. My first MINI had wind noise very similar to what you describe. Fingers crossed that the new one I'm picking this weekend doesn't.

P.S. Cool co-pilots

I'm crossing my fingers for you. The wind noise is driving me more and more crazy. I think about it throughout the day.

Plan to drop off my car soon when I can get a loaner.
