supersecret second glove box that only I know about

whilst attaching a suction cup garage opener to the panel above the glovebox, i accidentally pried open a supersecret SECOND glove box above the first that's about the size of the slot in a mailbox.

i peaked inside quickly, half-expecting to find the body of jimmy hoffy, but found it empty, then slammed it shut. i can find no way to reopen it without the suction cup thingy.

do i get a prize or sumthin?

You're joking, right? All the R56s have this and many threads exist about how they originally rattled so MINI started sealing them until they developed a fix. R56s have been shipping for months with this 'secret' compartment unlocked. Try pushing in on the outside of your 'secret' compartment.

oh yeah, sure ... i was JOKING! har de har har. i'm glad you caught the JOKE!

actually, believe it or not, i don't spend a lot of time reading old threads at this site ... especially since my mini is only a few months old. i genuinely did not know the compartment was there.

what may amaze you even more is that i'm not familiar with the R56s nomenclature. does put me squarely at the top of the uncool mini owners list? pardon me while i dig out my japanese dagger and kneel at your feet.

hell, i don't even know the secret handshake ...

Your MA should have told you about this when you purchased the vehicle. Someone did not do their job fully.
Glad you found it.

that's it! now there are TWO people who know about it! heh heh heh. at the risk of incurring the wrath of "those in the know" (otherwise known as the "cool mini owners"), how do you open that compartment? it appears this is the home of the iPod adapter that i've heard about? i've only been able to pry it open with suction cups.

thanks in advance.

Prying it open would be a good way to break it. Just push it.

Try using an acetylene torch to open it. Or perhaps some C-4 or Gelignite.

1st Gen MINI owners can try this as well just to see if they have
a secret second glove box as well.

No, merely going along with the general flow of this thread.

Using this method I did discover a secret compartment in my wife's '05. I didn't want to try this on my '06, though.

How can it even be a secret, if it's shown in the product brochure?
