In the future, just go to your local brake shop (Midas, Meineke, somethin like that) and tell them to replace the pads and turn the rotors. Pretty simple job.
Very bad advice. Do not turn MINI rotors. MINI wouldn't change them when they do warranty brake jobs if it didn't need to be done.

$800 sounds about right for a dealership brake job.

it never fails to amaze me that we pay bmw service rates for mini service. it's a 25000 dollar car at best . but we get bent over as though it were a 50000 dollar car . funny how they fail to mention this sorta' thing when you're shopping .

MINI dealership, right next door to BMW dealership. Hmm, wonder how that might affect service costs? Hmm. Let's find out.

OK, If you compare the MINI service costs with other import cars of equal value then it's really about the same. We don't drive KIAs or Hyundais so if you got a Volvo or VW or similar it might even be worse. Nevermind Lexus.

I still think it's about right for the OP's example. It's up to you to take your MINI where you want to go.

Curious as to the reasoning for your recommendation?

Although I'm not an advocate for turning rotors during routine brake job, I only turn them if they are damaged, I can't understand your Never recommendation.

When I do brakes, I'll take a DA and some 80 grit and deglaze the rotors. After 147k I haven't had an issue. Of course you have to mic the rotors to make sure they are within safe thickness limits.

Oh hell no

2 sets all around, only problem is clearing the lip with the new pads when doing the rears. You really don't want to have to turn that piston back in any more then you have to.

the cost of service should coincide with the cost of the car . the car is cheap but touted as a bmw . with all the **** wrong with um the service should be cheaper . as cheap as the car .

Yeah me too. I was pretty suprised... although I am at 60k on that car.
My Dodge Ram needed plugs at 30k. I was really PO'd about that. Brought it in for a miss and a check engine light. Thinking it was warrantied... I got a call at work... "the plugs need to be changed" Oh ok, just skip it and I'll do it this weekend. "well if we don't do it we'll need to charge a $100 diagnostic fee since it's not a warranty issue". F me.. seriously? I had them do it and never went back. I think it was $200 out of pocket. For a DIY guy it was torture to have someone else do it.

last time I checked, you could buy a $50k MINI if you were liberal on the build sheet

No, no. Brand new. Base price was under $20k, JCW was $5.5k installed, and I got them to knock $500 off. Times have changed.

you got more than the engine upgrade too. Plus even more HP than the 04 JCW. You actually got a heck of a deal (at least on the JCW portion)

He paid 5.5k for the early engine kit alone while you paid 6.3k and got the updated kit, limited slip, and JCW brakes.

there's still a wide, wide gap there ($900 for brakes + $500 for LSD = $4800). The JCW kit is in no way a 'heck of a deal'. Sport pkg mandatory + $6300. No thanks.

Word, Brother PGT. Word.

I did the intake/injector/flash 210hp upgrade at the dealer for $700, sourced a set of JCW brakes with 500 miles on them for $500 and found a new-in-box JCW suspension for $450. Everything installed with a full set of steel brake lines for a grand total of $2100.

So, I lied... my car came in just a hair over $27k.
